My 8 keeps getting broken into

Wherever it is that I live. On the street, in the parking garage. And the alarm never goes off. I leave all the consoles open displaying nothing, and idiots still get in there and steal my insurance papers and $2 in change (flip up armrest compartment). It's annoying as hell, and every time it happens my door lock/handle gets a little more and more tweaked.

Is there any way to help prevent this from happening? I've considered filling in the lock cylinder, since all I use is the key fob to enter the car, but I'm not sure if that would prevent thieves from getting in. The handle is now a little 'stickier' when opening the door, as if they tampered with the handle itself, instead of the lock. My key doesn't even fit in the lock anymore.

Does the factory alarm not trigger if the lock is picked? Should I purchase an aftermarket alarm?

I don't keep anything of real value in my car, but it really ticks me off when I lose things of sentimental value.

Somebody likes you. Get a new alarm.

Before that, remove the insurance papers. Sounds like there after those.

Get a shotgun.

Leave it unlocked?

Move somewhere else?

that's scary

get a aftermarket security system like clifford. i have clifford in my range rover and evo ix and it works great. better than factory ones. didn yet do the install in the 8. but i highly recommend it.

My neighbors jeep got broken into in the apt parking garage several times. He installed a hidden camera hidden around the pipes overhead and got them nailed.

get an alarm for the car. would scare off an inexperienced car thief, but if a theif really wants the car, he'll take the car alarm and all.

IMO, an alarm is really just intended to bring attention to the car when the alarm goes off.

I would've thought that the car would have an alarm.. since it has that panic button ;( I guess I have to buy an aftermarket :x

my understanding is that the 8 does have an alarm. the shock sensor upgrade is specifically for triggering it further when it gets disturbed. maybe u should get that. it's a $65 upgrade i believe.

also, when u lock the car w/ the keyless remote, u have to see the lights flash once to arm the alarm. if u press lock twice and hear the horn go off one beep- that also means it's armed.

I have a good friend that had this happen on a nearly regular basis in his subdivision.
The next weekend, we had a "sit in". Using Tarps for cover, he camped out in his Alfa Spyder, which was parked just outside the garage door, and I camped out in his El Camino, parked alongside. We even had a set of Motorola personal Walkie-Talkies for communication. At about 4:30 AM, our thief clumsily dropped his "Slim Jim" on the pavement between the cars to alert us of his arrival and it was on...
We kicked his ass and detained him until the police arrived.
Guess what? No more break-ins!

the stake-out sounds like a great idea too. just make sure to bring a camera too.

sounds like fun, I mean how mean how many times in life you get the chance to beat up an asshole; considering they always get away with 6 months probation and does it again ; so yah beat him joe peichi style from casino......lol

Another option if you don't want to sit in a car waiting for possibly nothing to happen is get an alarm with a paging system

I have a Compustar. There are others like Viper and Audiovox that have the paging system.

Chose the Compustar because it has excellent range (6,000 feet).

I wonder what would happen if you had a camera set up

I also wonder what would happen if you were to go out in the woodlands and find some poison ivy or poison oak, along some hiking trail and some of it somehow got on some papers that looked a lot like ownership or insurance papers, or even a dollar bill or two.
I wonder if you had disposable rubber gloves, and disposable socks etc. and you were real real careful if you could get some plant samples - the sap especially - if you could just get it on the paper without messing up youself up.
I wonder if you would know to turn your gloves inside out as you remove them and toss them away...
I wonder if these papers were in a nice little envelope or box or portfolio and they were in the right place if someone would find them and carry them off and not just dump them on a seat or somewhere
I wonder if the seats and other vulnerable car surfaces could be covered with cloth or something disposable to protect them if some one opened and tossed the envelope
I wonder if a set of keys, not to anything specific ,were left treated if the criminal might put them in his pocket...
I wonder how many times the criminal would return to the crime scene before he discovered he was allergic to your car.
I wonder if you know that you can remove the hyperallergenic oil by applying wet clay 3 times and letting it dry; followed by washing the exposed area with Technu soap, followed by an application of cortisol gel outside and taking a little red pseudofed pill - thus preventing or treating your own case of poison-oak rash
I wonder if you might think how funny it would be for someone to try and break into your car...again and again..

But then again I wonder when they will afford some clothes for that poor child that keeps getting posted again and again. I wonder what her Dad would say to the pictures...
