MSD Blaster Ignition Coil

Anyone have those installed in their car?
Do they replace the regular oem, ignition coils? If so I need 4 of them right? thats a expensive upgrade them but my 8 is my daily driver so I think it ll be worth it.

So If I order 4 of those MSD igniton coils with NGK sparkplugs and new sparkplugs wires I should be set then, right? or anything else is required for the installation?

I love you,

thx in advance

Search for it, there is like a 20+ page thread about them. Hell, I'll even spoon feed it to you...

Or save yourself some money and buy a coil kit from BHR.

Wankel_Rotor 09-25-2009 02:29 PM

man, this blows. they look soo good. anyone has any info on the BHR coils? are they any easier to install?
thx in advance

You do realize that the BHR coils are plug and play right?

That's the beauty of it. They did all the bitch work to make sure that their coils fit our cars, has the correct dwell settings (which you probably didn't even research yet), and has the best available components to alleviate a common issue that has plagued alot of the RX8 owners.

There were other guys that have "replicated" the BHR coils, but it still was well north of the $350 mark in just supplies and that's without fabricating a nice little bracket to hold the coils on. Charles also stands by his products and he's even gone as far to back up his products with a limited warranty on them. OEM coils don't even have a warranty - although....I wish they did with our cars lol.

This is not even a discussion. Get the BHR coils and save yourself a bunch of headaches from trying to manufacture your own "solution."

^+1, also learn how to use the search function.

epik, I built my own replica BHR kit for way less than $350, just gotta know where to get supplies. I spent just over $200 and I relocated the coils to where the stock airbox sits. ;)

Knowledge is power

His wholesale price coils are probably still more than what I got mine for, hell I bought 2 sets of coils for the same price of 2 at retail price. ;)

But seriously Wankel, buy the BHR kit you won't be disappointed!

got the bhr coils on my car, runs silky smooth

remove old one install new ones, dont touch hot engine, plug in done.

but on a serious point, bhr has the coils the wires and the mounting bracket and extremely simple instructions if needed. so meh i think thats the easiest route.

Add me to the list of BHR's supremely satisfied customers. The coil install couldn't be any more simple and the results are truly what the doctor ordered. You can't get better than that. No need to look any further than that.

on that note of ignition and ignition kits!

I think that another great solution must be the RRP mk2 ignition coils that also fit directly the OEM bracket, have some cooling of heatsink and are well priced. That with msd wires should be a great solution. What you think?
They are built to work directly with the stock parameters for dwell table etc btw.

Not very useful comment bro. not only me says that. i have no personal benefit of saying that and no affiliation with RRP. Plus i am asking people what they think. if you have anything useful to say we are all ears.

Well then, I'll try to say something useful.

I've never heard of them in the seven years I've been here.

I've researched many coils and kits.
Enough to buy both the older version of the BHR kit, and the SakeBomb IGN-1A Mercury coil kit.
It doesn't mean they're unpopular or not a good option.

You said what these coils were.
Are you assuming we are familiar with the product?
Or are you assuming we are curious enough to Google it?

Post a link to it if you want opinions, thus the "Says you."

Very good! Thank you. Yes, i expected people to google or for people that already know or used them to reply..., I understand :)
Fair enough, my bad, here is the link:

https://www.ryanrotaryperformance.co...il-system-mkii

There was also a mk1 version that I can not find anymore, which looks more like the beefier msd. Technology has improved, and there is smaller forms now.
They give a lifetime warranty to the original purchaser of the coils. It seems that you don't need to change the harness or use a bracket but you are better off using also some msd cables.

fair enough. no secret i am new to the forum but not new to computers. The search function in the forum is not ideal. Now i even learnt something about these coils: they are BHR equivalent or so. about reviving threads is not that bad always. Thank you for the comments. Reading 📖

TeamRX8 02-04-2020 12:12 PM

Hence the suggestion to read more, post less. The situation is more obvious than you may realize and doesn’t require an explanation. It’s not helpful to be making not useful comments about something you have no experience on. Questions rather than assertions and declarations might be more appropriate if you feel the need to be discussing something.

I also use RRP mk2 coils, car is now running great and no more unburnt fuel smell from decat, although I need a small bracket adjustment on my s2.
