Motor Mounts

Hi Guys,
The motor mounts on my '07 6MT are worn and need replacing. Mazda wants 950$ just for the parts. I was wondering if there were any ideas on where to get decent motor mounts at a decent price? Thanks

If they're charging you $950 for the mounts, I can only imagine the bullsh fee that they'll charge for the labor.
The dealer is a straight up rip off.

Here's a link for mazmart on E-bay: New Genuine Mazda RX8 Engine Mounts Manual Pair 2004 2011 | eBay

They're $290 which is much cheaper. Also,if you search on e-bay, you find them for even less, You can also find decent parts for pretty cheap on the sales section on this site here, so you have several options to choose from.

The labor fee shouldn't be more than a $100 bucks. To swap the mounts, all you need to do is lift the engine about 1/2" undo a few bolts, swap the new ones in, tighten the bolts, and lower the engine back on the mounts. If you have access to a cherry picker and some basic tools, you can do it yourself in an hour or less. There's a good video on youtube that walks you through the steps.

If that doesn't work, find a private mechanic. They should be able to do it for relatively cheap compared to whatever nonsense fee the dealer will charge you.

Yes, $950 is quite excessive for engine mounts including the labor IMO.

We developed and been offering our own aftermarket mounts since 2011, they are available in aluminum as well as stainless steel. We offer them with red or black bushings and there is a DIY on the forum for the install which typically takes about an hour with hand tools.

I just turned the discount code on for members of the forum here.

Let me know if I can help, Scott

I have a custom set of Motor mounts from RX8performance (RX-Tuner) and they are amazing.

Just get new OEM mounts and install them yourself it's really not hard to do. Look around, you can get new OEM mounts for $75.00 each at the cheapest or just got to Advanceautoparts and use the discount code HUGE50 for $50.00 and free shipping on the engine mounts they sell that come with a warranty. If you want OEM Mazda parts then try email paul@mazmart.com or check out onlinemazdaparts.com.

I run OEM mounts and they work great, I have never had any issues and if you do eventually need stiffer mounts then you can just fill the OEM mounts with Urethane (search for DIY here).

If you really want custom aftermarket mounts then I recommend going with a quality set from a reputable company like Black Halo Racing.

I just received a set of scotts mounts over the weekend and planning on putting them on tomorrow. Too bad i just missed out on the discount. They do look good but haven't changed them just yet.

How do you know when they need to be replaced?

Hootyhoo 10-02-2016 06:56 PM

You can look to see if they are sagging or cracked. If you look at the back of the mount where the red arrow is on the picture. If that metal part is touching the mount then it is sagging or broken. The passenger side wears out first most of the time due to it being so close to the exhaust. When i took mine out the other day, the passengers side was broken in 2 pieces which i did not see when i first checked them. I will post some pictures of mine that i took out, tomorrow.

This is just a picture i found online to show you what to look for.
