More Problems here in Tucson
Hey guys....well some of you know I bought my 2004 MT about a month ago, and I have had this horrible oil leak......well its at the dealer again being looked at....the first time they changed the oil and said all is ok....but the engine has been smoking and dropping oil all over the fukin place....what do you guys think it is? does the engine just need to be replaced?
|
You need to know where the oil is coming from. An oil change isn't going to solve a leak, but the engine would puke it back out the dipstick if it had been overfilled.
|
Check the oil filter seat for a left-over filter gasket.
Check the oil cooler plumbing for a missing fitting pin. Look at the mating surface of the pan for a leak and the pan itself for a dent or crack. Check that the dipstick tube is fully seated and the o-ring is intact. |
thanks guys....well the smoke was coming from under the hood...and it always smells like oils is burning...and its dropping oil all over the place man....and yea it seems like it was overfilled...and i never put a drop in it....i dont fukin know i really want a new motor...
|
The dealership hasn't told you what the problem was?
|
ok guys i drove over there to get the face to face situation....ok it turns out the oil pan gasket and the main seal are all fuked......so do you guys think this engine is even salvagable now? or will they replace my engine...because i guarantee i have a problem with compression now.....they said for sure it will be another few days......
|
Losing oil like that won't lower your compression unless you ran it completely dry.
The real question is - what did you run over to beat the pan in? |

We've seen 2 occasions where replacement engines did not get the rear stationary gear o-ring installed causing big oil leaks. last one was a reman renesis, prior to that it was a reman 13B-REW. Sloppy either way.

Might have jacked the tranny on the way out.

The front seal doesn't see serious load, but there have been some failures around here. Seems to be mostly on vehicles with aftermarket pulleys.

my car has already had 2 reman's replaced...this is the 3rd motor...and yea the mail seal is totally fuked...they ordered the part and it will be in on monday..and my car out on tuesday...they said i have to return the rental car today.....i think that is bs since its not my fault they didnt get my car looked at until the 3rd day it was in! |

I took my 2004 RX-8 to Jim Click because it was stalling and loosing power in hot weather. Sure enough they said they were replacing the engine. Lucky my warranty expires in 4 months. And get this, the rental car loaner company said they have had many RX-8 rentals for 30 days or "engine replacement". So were's the recall? Sounds like a defect in the design to me.
