Mobil 1 oil filter

I just got through the mother of all oil changes. It was my third oil change for the 8, but I've been doing my own in other vehicles for more than 10 years, so I'm not exactly a newb.

The problem came, I think, when I used the Mobil 1 oil filters. I used to use Fram a long time ago, but saw their performane results, and decided to change to k&N oil filters. Unfortuneatly, they didn't have a K&N in stock last time, so I bought a Mobil 1. Never again.

I always apply a little oil to the gasket and to the threads to prevent sticking, and never over torque, but the Mobil damned near welded itself on there. I broke 2 filter wrenches, tried the screwdriver through the side, and ended up having to use channel locks to torque it off. The filter ended up in peices.

I know that K&N advertises that they're gaskets are "internally lubricated for easy removal" and I've never had a problem with them.

Has anyone else had a problem with Mobil filters?

The only filter that I've ever had trouble removing was the factory filter. This includes Fram, K&N, Mobil1, Purolator, Wix/Napa, Champion, ACDelco, and Bosch on five different cars.

So, uh, yah... Maybe you over-torqued it? :p
