Hey everyone, I recently bought a Mazda rx8

Anyways my friend who also has an 8 and he suggested
that I buy the engine cleaner because my engine has built up alot of
carbon and has not been cleaned and I bought the cleaner, well it just came in yesterday
but I just got the car and I really don't want to mess anything up, if someone
is willing to help me out with the engine cleaning I would really appreciate it

hey man. i got the same problem with u. my car is under warranty and i took it to mazda dealership. they replaced the spark plugs, wires n coils. but said that the engine decarbing would have to be done and it isnt under warranty. its costing me $100 for them to do it. so mayb u should see it the mazda dealership could do it for u. i also put some engine decarb stuff in mine. it keeps it running good until i put gas. everytime i put gas i have to put more in to keep it running good. so idk. just suggestions. btw i live in killeen

i did mine yesterday, its an easy process you really cant mess it up. Simple steps.

1. disconnect the E-shaft plug (take your stock airbox out, look right behind the lower pulley and you'll see a big plug)
2. take the two nipple rubbler caps off the manifold (down past washer fluid tank)
3. Spray the cleaner in the nipples, or run a tube from the nipples to a cup filled with cleaner and have someone crank the engine over a few times to suck it up. (car wont start with e-plug undone)
4. Let sit for an hour, reconnect the e-plug, put the rubber caps back on the nipples, stick the airbox back in and start it up. Itll probably smoke a ton, just give it gas 20 or so times, let it run for awhile and your all set.

those are the basic instructions, theres different methods, but I think i covered everything. By the way, Seafoam works well too, $8.50 a can, just fill a cup up and get some small fish tank air hose from Lowes to run from the nipples.

I'd help if I was at all close!!

km1346 07-07-2009 08:43 PM

yeah Ive already seen all the steps on how to do it..
but getting to the e-shaft looks like a very hard task to complete.. after that id be fine

In case you missed my DIY

shakeyourbrakes 07-07-2009 11:06 PM

def not a hard task at all... take your airbox out, theres a DIY for that too, itll take you all of 30 seconds. After that, the e-shaft plug is the ONLY big plug directly behind the lowest pulley. You cant miss it, believe me.
