Mazda does not recommend synthetic oil for RX-8

I recently recieved an updated "RX-8 drivers handbook" from Mazda U.S.

Some of you may have also received it.

It clearly states not to use synthetic oil. If any one requests that I post a scanned copy of the page relating to this warning, I shall be happy to do so.

Yea, you should really post that pic instead of making statements, otherwise this is all just hearsay. For most of us, we have the manuals that usage is not recommended and that's all that matters to us. However, this is all very interesting show us this document! For this (oh is it that they in this country) "may change the game."

I'm skerred guys...what about yous?

^synthetic has been known to have its benefits.

Roto:
Um...it says "Do not use synthetic oil" explicitly or something to that effect?

"do not use"

Copy of page with note about synthetic oil

here's the copy of the "Driver's Guide". See reference to "fill it up and check the oil too".

I hope that I have attached the scan. I followed the "manage attachments" info. If it doesn't show up I'll try again, or let me know how to do it, if you've done it before.

My dealer mechanic told me that although synthetic oil is great for conventional engines, the problem is that the rotary engine injects a very small amount of oil to lubricate the apex seals, and that synthetic oil doesn't burn off completely due to it's formulation and ingredients, which is great for conventional engines, but may slowly clog the cat converter and pose problems in the future.

Re-scaned copy of driver's guide re synthetic oil usage

I think my first attempt was too large a file. let's see if this works.

The guide was sent to me after a friend of mine received a CD ROM (I think he said CD-ROM) with info regarding the latest starting procedures for flooded engines.

When I called mazda's cutomer service number, the guy said he'd send out the latest info. I got a little fold out pamphlet to put in my Owner's manual

I don't know. Post it in the rx-8 discussion forum and it'll probably spark another debate, but this time there's something new in it...

Why are you guys so damn persistent when it comes to this topic? Someone has to start a new thread on this every other day. It's getting old and the non believers plain and simple don't get it! I'm just going to start shutting these threads down. There is absolutely nothing wrong with synthetic oil in the rotary engine. Tons of real world experience proves this both from Mazda themselves and many synthetic users over many years. The only thing you guys can come up with to say otherwise is a brochure. Many of us have actual results with it. You can not beat that. Sorry. Give it up. I don't see anyone listening to the manual, brochures, etc, when it comes to using only genuine Mazda parts installed by Mazda techs. Why not? That must mean that intakes, exhausts, etc are bad for the car. Mazda would have you only purchase oil through them and air filters through them. They'd have you replace your cat only with a factory one. They'd have you only use their mufflers. They don't want you to use aftermarket parts of any kind. See the trend? Why do so many people listen to Mazda but at the same time not listen to Mazda?

synthetic oil

gomez got the brochure also. i told mazda rep that mine was an '04. that's what they sent me. It doesn't say to use only mazda oil, just not to use synthetic and check to see if ILSAC rated. I was told this by my dealer mechanic when i got the car, and I've saved all the receipts from my local auto parts store showing my purchase of non-synthetic oil (Penzoil 5w-20, in my case) and my receipts from the dealer showing my timely purchase of the factory oil filter, (my choice) all for the purpose of providing proof of my maintaining the car in the event of warranty issues. I don't wish to pursue this issue further, as i always thought that the manufacture's advice was the best to go with, and that's where i stand. Why would they say otherwise?
