^honestly I dont think it is going to be worth the money

Hmmm. Resale value on MTs is higher, no? So selling and buying an auto would net money, yes? There are people on here who wish they had bought a MT or are inquiring about doing a AT->MT swap. Find one and trade cars. It would seem silly to buy $5000 in parts to do a swap that should be free at minimum. Reselling parts is a pain.

As it were, there is a thread on how a AT->MT swap was done. The reverse would probably just be doing the same things but with AT components. Maybe the guy doing the swaps (professional rotary mechanic) could set up a parts swap with you. Guys ask him to do AT->MT swaps but he doesn't supply parts. You supply those parts and he could probably give you the AT parts in return along with some info on how to do it. However, you're still undertaking a PITA process that will net cost you money simply to do it.

You say that its a really nice 8. So I'm guessing it already has some mods on it. So unless you think there is no way that trading for an auto and modding it the way you want would be cheaper do what maxx suggests. But I would still think that it would be cheaper and easier to just trade or sell

you are going to need a different PCM, the transmission computer, a different gauge cluster, an automatic trans, and a different driveshaft.

its not worth it. find the same color. take your mods off, put the mods on that car. if they are painted exterior mods. otherwise, just find any other auto.

find one being sold locally, if you do the work to swap it. im sure most people would go for it. the MT has more power and a higher resale.

PM Rotary Resurrection, he did it.

just trade with someone with an auto, they will gladly trade

Well i just got my new 2007 8 an i dont think im gonna do any modding on it. Its all bone stock an is a pleasure to drive. Only thing im gonna do is tint windows. If theres any cruise nights in Pa De. or N.J. let me know an we all can have some good times. I Just wanna holla out to Sam Swope BMW for this Beautiful car an all the support they gave me. Happy Holidays to all :)

since all the good suggestions have been taken, this is the advice i'll give:

buy a 'dumb' auto tranny and install that, at least you won't need to muck with any computer stuff. One of the older rx7 auto boxes should mate up with a bit of work... though I'm not sure how you'd best go about hooking up kickdown or any of those things (if they need separate inputs other than maybe a vacuum source), don't know enough about the particulars of those specific auto boxes to care.

good luck~

(since you didn't specify that you wanted the rx-8 auto tranny, I assume any auto will do)
