Maintenance Prices!! OMG!!!

so im at the dealer today getting my car "unflooded" and i pick up the maintenance schedule costs. the 7500 mile service consisting of:

oil/filter change
rotate tires
fill fluids
lubricate locks, latches and hinges
Inspect coolant, hoses, etc
add MOC Premium Engine Treatment (note: engine treatment must be added to keep 30k warranty active)

now ready for this?? $104 !!!! holy shitty!!

15,000 mile is 190 and 30,000 is $455....wow this car is expensive to drive!

Pinhy,

Check other dealers. Not all the prices are the same. I've had a Villlager mini-van once that I took in for the 30,000 mile service and found out the hard way. I just assumed all dealers were in the same ball park but this dealer was literally double two others for the same service. I was so ticked I traded it. :D

That is cheap. I had my Volvo in for it's 15k service and was banged for $267.00. It was a basic oil change and the typical lube the door jams and hood. Then they hit me for 39 more to put on new wiper blades. Thanks for the info on the engine treatment. I did not know about that. Glad to hear your back on the road.

yup yup...thanks......a minor setback and didnt cost me anything

now i know not to flood the car anymore!

When you look at what the dealers actually do on these minor maintenances, you're really getting hosed. Do it yourself, or take it to an independent shop. Just keep accurate records and do the service when you're supposed to, and your warranty will still be valid.

I plan on going to the dealer for scheduled maintenance for at least the life of the warranty - just for the peace of mind and to maintain the car's value. Plus I will do an additional oil change in between the scheduled ones and keep all of my records stright. With any luck, I'll still have a good $15k value in the car when I'm ready to trade up.

Pinhy 04-05-2004 09:19 PM

good points demon....that is why i am upset about prices. i plan to do the same. i'll do my 3750 mile oil changes myself, but then the scheduled ones i want to do at a dealer.

just going to have to sell off some unborn kids first!! haha

I've taken my car in at 5k, 10k, and in a couple my 15k work and don't think they used any type of Engine treatment. I assume a fuel additive put in the gas tank? I'm going to check my records and look in the manual but I think they took advantage of you.

Any required service calls will be expensive. My wife's Hyundai Elantra cost us about $400 when we had it in for its 30k maintainance! Thanks, but I'd rather be driving the 8:)

That's because every time someone brings in a car to the dealer asking for a 30K, 60K etc. maintenance, they will get raped with an exorbitant bill. Shops know that people kind of expect a more serious cost when they bring in their cars to get a "major" service done... and they capitalize on the opportunity shamelessly.
If you take a look what is called out in the owners' manual specifically at the 30K service and would request exactly those items to be done, you'll be surprised how much less that usually will cost. You'd pay maybe 50-60% of the "30K" service rate.
And forget about the "lubricate hinges, latches, etc." bullshit or "inspect hoses, belts" and other visuals - none of that is ever really performed unless something is just glaringly obvious to see. They just have those on the list to charge customers for them and make the list longer to justify the robbery.

I dont think the engine treatment is part of regular maintenence.. it's not listed in the manual or mymazda website.

I had the oil change and tire rotation & balance for my maintenence and it cost me only 63 bucks.. I think you should find a new dealer.

vudoodoodoo 04-06-2004 09:11 AM

Think of it this way: You don't have to bring it in for expensive 60k mile timing belt change. :D

Exactly. You can do oil/air filters and plugs yourself and bypass those "oil disposal/shop rags/supplies" fees.

the add MOC Premium Engine Treatment (note: engine treatment must be added to keep 30k warranty active)

is complete bullshit! the MOC must stand for MOCKING the customer. that is not anywhere in the manual. complete BULLSHIT> do not pay for that. also i get all my services free thanks to the hp debacle ;) a little salt in the wound for ya:)

JERCS 04-06-2004 01:39 PM

My 15k was suppose to be around 200 bucks! But my Mazda Free Maint. card got me out of that :D

therm8 04-06-2004 01:54 PM

my 7500 was $84, you may want to shop around for the next one

mikeb 04-06-2004 05:31 PM

I'm loving my free maintaince so much right now
