Low idle
I'm having a problem with the idle on my 2004 rx8 stick shift. It's idling very low and eventually shuts off when I'm in neutral. I have to constantly rev up to keep it from turning off when I stop.
Can anyone advise me on how to get back to normal? |
Mine did that with a blown interior fuse, any extra lights on your dash?

Can anyone advise me on how to get back to normal? How many miles on the odometer? When did the last time you did a tune-up? Also, check the status of the fuel pump too. |
I recently replaced the spark plug, wires and coils. I got about 132k miles on it. How do I check the status on the fuel pump... Sorry I'm a newb

Idle problems are never fuel pump related. Unstable or low idle or idle stall is usually one of these: 1: Low compression 2: dirty MAF ($5 can of MAF cleaner at the autoparts store 3: dirty / uncalibrated e-shaft sensor (unplug, wipe it off, replug, reset ECU) 4: Ignition failure You ruled out #4, so it's one of the others. Handle #2 and 3, and if it's still there, take it in for a compression test, your engine is probably failing. |

You are already better off than monchie, who recommended that, since you aren't referring to it as a 'tune up'. He is an idiot, so don't take his suggestions.

Eccentric Shaft Position Sensor Removal/Install:
http://foxed.ca/rx7manual/2003mazdar...018221W02.html How to reset ECU: http://www.rx8blog.com/how-to-reset-ecu-on-mazda-rx8/ I would suggest cleaning the Throttle Body and Idle Air Control valve. |

Cool thanks. Is there an easy way to clean the throttle body and the Air control valve. <------ how do I locate it?

If you don't know how to locate the throttle body, you probably shouldn't try to clean it, either.
Search for how to clean a throttle body, it's easy to do. I'd explain it, but my RX-8 (and my wife) are awaiting me to take her out to dinner. :) |
Yea I'm not very familiar with all the names but I can do the job if I know exactly the parts I need to work on. Thanks for the info guys
