low dyno results + recall

so i took my car to get dyno'd today

MODS= AEM CAI and B&B Catback Exhaust on a dynojet

max HP= 173.51
max TQ= 125.03

i was really disappointed with the results, especially since mazda advertised a 237 flywheel HP, so i was expecting at least 200HP. then i saw there was a recall for the rx8.

first question, if my car is eligible for the recall, what exactly are they going to do to fix this problem? new engine, new reflash? what exactly is the problem?

second, does anyone know where i'm getting all of this power loss? it shouldn't be coming from the intake or exhaust. i noticed a lot of the other dyno's had around the same numbers, so is it just mazda flat out lied about the numbers so i'm just shit out of luck?

any help here would be appreciated, i'm really close to just selling it and buying an s2000 or a bmw z4.

Honestly, there are alot people disappointed with their dyno numbers. I'm not sure of what recall you are talking about. I think the power loss you are experiencing, is just the normal drivetrain loss. I thought my numbers were a little low...197hp and 131tq...all I'm running is 3" HKS Hi-Power exhaust and K&N V2 intake. Wish it could be better but it's okay. I believe our race cars are making somewhere around 220hp but that is at full race prep...custom header and 3.5" header back exhaust also, with the RB race flash.

If the numbers are bothering you that much sell it. Looks like you're already leaning that direction anyways.

i would have been a lot happier with those numbers.
but i should not lose anywhere close to that much to normal drivetrain loss, especially on a manual transmission, with intake and exhaust.
my friend's 07 civic si gets 197HP to the fly and dyno'd the same time as me at 180+WHP with just CAI and exhaust.
about 30-40HP drivetrain loss is typical for stock cars, but i'm almost at twice that WITH modifications.

i did a searched around about this and there was a recall from mazda due to "loss/lack of power". i'm going to call mazda in a minute and and ask them about this.

civic = fwd = hardly any powertrain loss that is why hes getting around the same crank hp. maybe that will make you a little happier?

power train loss is by percentage, not static. untop of that, civics respond well to just CAI_Exhaust because tats how bad the stock ones are, i believe rx8 stock already comes with semi CAI and our exhaust is just heavy, but effective. the 8 is still a faster car, but seems like if number is your game.. get a mustang GT.

oh, those number is normal., a lil lower by a couple hp, but normal, i hope u disabled the DSC/TSC before you dynoed ur car, or u have just wasted money.. also ur pluge/coils/wires may be bad, but it seems normal. u can't boost the civic like u can rx8 to 300 hp.

yeah, i was just expecting at least 200WHP out of the dyno results, so i was really shocked with 173WHP results.

i called mazda about the recall, it's only a reflash to the engine which eliminates the flooding problem

i guess i'm just going to have to start looking at turbos, superchargers, and nitrous...

I'm not sure how many miles you have, but change plugs and coils, run BG44k, and try again. You might gain 5-6 hp from that. Like someone else said, this is not a car that is going to win a numbers game, its about the experience.
