Lost that 5K and 7K rpm boost after M flash?

Ok, mine lost those momentary boosts after the M flash. I found out that most had the same case too. A trade off for that was more low end power for us right?

Well, since I've had the M flash, I have gotten used to the smooth "boost-less" rev to 9K on my 8. But recently, those 2 boosts came back. After driving the M flash for over a month, I realized that I have been getting 16MPG and some occasional throttle hesitations. So one Monday morning, I did the 30 brake taps and my oil needle sweeped. Then I drove the car as how I would everyday.

Yesterday, I got pissed off my this Taurus who was running 30mph on a 50mph zone in the fastlane. After a stop light, I tried to pass him quickly and as I was about to shift to 3rd, I decided to let it stay on 2nd up to the beep. The revs at the low end were still quick but as I passed 5K, I felt that boost and then another at 7K. I did not notice it until I came home that night that those boosts have been gone since I've had a reflash.

Could my brake tap reset have done something to my 8? I'm just wondering why it's back now after a month of driving a new PCM. I'm gonna try running that 9K beep again this weekend to see if it happens again. Has anyone had this experience after an M flash?

The 20-tap "test" that you refer to actually clears the non-volatile RAM (NV-RAM) in the PCM. It is not just a test to see of you have L or greater PCM calibration. The eccentric shaft plate profile, and other sensor profiles are stored in NV-RAM. After doing the 20-tap thing, the PCM has to re-store these profiles. Maybe it has something to do with that...

Someone more knowledgeable than me will have to chime in with the "other" sensor profiles that are stored in the NV-RAM.

The description of the 20-tap procedure is in the following Service Bulletin: http://www.finishlineperformance.com...ocs/01-007.htm

Yes, thanks for the info. Actually, I knew that. I did the brake taps to reset the those settings in hopes to make my 8 re-learn things and somehow improve my mileage (sort of like when I just got it reflashed that got me 17MPG). Instead, I have discovered that I regained those 2 boosts again. I tested it this afternoon and I felt those 2 boosts! It's fun :D

hey i desperately need those boosts back too....after the flash it felt like............."where's my top end power"? what do I need to do after resetting the NV-RAM to have the old top end power stay?
