Life time warranty on ignition coils

If u live near a O'Reilly auto parts store they are selling BWD ignition coils with a life time warranty. I asked the parts guy how this works and he said if u think they are broke bring them in and we will give u new ones for as long as you own the car. At this point I said that they crap out around 40,000mi and he said dosent matter bring them in and we will give u new ones. They cost me 150 for the set, so just a heads up.

Search is your friend.

Awesome tip. Did you buy and install them or is this just an fyi? I'm in the market for some coils and this could be great.

slvrstreak 09-16-2010 05:07 AM

much better than the warranty from advance auto (2yr) and you can only bring them back once

slvrstreak 09-16-2010 06:51 AM

i think you can order online or if you have any friends on here get them to ship them to you

RX8Lovah 09-16-2010 07:18 AM

Yep just called them and confirmed =) Online it says "limited" lifetime. and i asked about that. and he said no, its lifetime... sweet =-)
He also said you can order online -and trade into a store when its time if you dont live close to one.

good deal thanks for posting =)

slvrstreak 09-16-2010 07:53 AM

If I had 500 bucks why not

This is a good deal if you want factory type coils.

But my problem with OEM type coils is that if they are going out it can ruin your cat and possibly your engine. By the time you realize it, the damage may be done. We just installed the BHR kit in grungepup's car a couple of weeks ago and three of his factory coils had huge white spots on them and they were only 20,000 miles old.

I went through three sets of factory coils before installing the BHR kit at 96,000 and all of the failed coils (tested at dealer) had white spots on them as well. For me it wasn't totally a big deal since I had an extended bumper to bumper warranty that covered them but it was still a hassle. I am not aware of any BHR coils ever failing.

I made it 75,000 on stock coils and I am cat-less. There are no problems on return I just took my stock ones to a diffent store early this morning and the kid gave me a new set and all he did was look at my receipt. So I just got a buy one get one free. Hey if I could afford a BHR set up I would but most of cant so for the ones that cant here is a sweet deal.

I doubt very seriously stock coils would be functioning correctly at 75,000 but that is for another discussion.

Yeah lifetime warranty is great, for years I used to go through driveshafts on my Turbo Civic fairly often and I would just return them and get new ones :) They never asked questions.

Good Deal...
I'm on stock coils... @ 47K currently. I had 4 of my plugs changed @ 36K, had the dealer checked on the coils, they said they are fine... So I'll get these next month, where I'm expecting to hit 50K and get the 50K maintenance package done.

Great sharing!

You would be correct running like shit, but now I have the ability to change them out when ever

Don't knock the 70K on stock coils, I think I did as well. The car flooded several times, was hard to start and did not run to full potential (did not discover that until I changed them). I changed the plugs, they were dirty. A week later, the old coils started chirping and a week after that, they started going to hell. Also flooded again. Changed coils, no flooding, started great, ran a ton better. Note, still have stock wires.

I'm a manager for an O'reillys store. This thread makes me feel awkward.

interesting

Targatheory 09-17-2010 05:39 PM

If I wanted to, I could replace almost every part of my car for free. Damn business ethics.

the1jesster 09-17-2010 05:56 PM

Hey I was honest with the guy and told him I would be in ever 20-30 thousand mi for new ones and he said so be it. I am just glad they have at least one employee that loves the RX8, most the time they have a deer in the head light look when I talk about my car to them.

Targatheory 09-18-2010 12:28 AM

Well, I love the RX8.

And a I know a scammer from someone who doesn't know and or just has a feeling about something wrong with their car. It's my job to protect my company assets while helping people with their cars, especially when they're running my brands.

Yeah, well if the store doesn't ask question or test them then that's on them. I used to swap out axles every year or so and no ever asked me any questions. If they were broke, they replaced them.

And let's not talk ethics, I know what the mark up is on some of the stuff you sell.
