Koni Remote Adjustments for Rear Shocks?
 

I have Koni 8240-1227 adjustable rear shocks.

However, you must remove and disassemble the shock/coil assembly to adjust the shock damping. I would like to find out if there is a remote adjustment kit available.

I e-mailed Koni NA, and have not received an answer after several days.

Does anyone know if Koni makes a remote adjustment kit for these rear shocks? I know that the rear Tokico shocks have remote adjusters available for an extra cost. I would HOPE that Koni does as well.

Do NOT go to Koni-NA site, I think their site has been compromised and someone already put a trojan on it. the Downloader Trojan will install to your PC if you use Internet Explorer.

I dont think Koni makes anything like that. Yes its a pain to remove it everytime u want to change something.

contact phil at dpe. in the vendors forum.. it can be done, but it is not cheap.. if fact it is expensive..

nope, can't fit a remote adjuster to the Koni, You can make it externally adjustable with a tab at the top of the shaft so that it can be adjusted with the usual Koni adjustment knob, but that is all and the shock/spring assy still needs to be dropped down to have access to the adjuster

Yeah, check in the DPE forum. I posted up some information regarding this there after speaking with Truechoice about the possibility...

rear shock never needs adjusting anyway --set it 1/2 up from full soft and leave it alone.

I told them about it, they removed it after maybe 2 hours :o

The trojan only downloads itself when it detect IE 6.0. Firefox is safe :D

TC was able to discuss it with you because of prior avenues they explored with somebody else here ;)

the problem is the Koni uses a unique adjuster on this style shock; it gets harder to turn as it moves toward the max stiff setting. The full stiff setting requires more force than a flexible cable can withstand, or the typical 12V electric drive either.

Hey I'm bringing this thread back to life as I'm looking into buying Koni's. This is for my road car with occasional HPDE days. If I set something up AS I install, it wouldnt be a big deal...

TeamRX8: How progressive is this rear knob? I will definitely be between full soft and 50% hard; between those settings would it still be too much force for a flexible cable to withstand? It seems like I could whip some cable setup together without too much trouble.

Or should I really just stick with Olddragger's advice to set it to 50% and leave it? I don't know much about suspension tuning, but I'm assuming the front damping settings are more important than the rear?

fwiw, I believe the 50% setting originated with me ;) that's what works for me and my setups, plus I have double-adjustable which along with some other settings allows me to tune around having to change rear rebound, I last changed my Stock rear rebound setting in mid-2005

others here run them at 100%, but that can be a bit tough on a DD, and again it may ultimately depend on your overall setup

sorry, I know this isn't as concrete of an answer as you'd like to have, but if you're asking me I'd suggest 50 - 60% from full soft

ps: there is no rear knob unless you have the rear shocks converted to externally adjustable or double adjustable, Koni doesn't believe a cable system will work on their shock which is why they don't offer it, I never tried and can't say if it will work or not, you're best bet will be to call Phil Harris @ Truechoice (888) 566-4722 and see if he's willing to help you explore the possiblity, I never felt the need to go there per the previous comments

Check out my BC Racing V1 Design fully adjustable coilovers. Accessing the rear damper adjustment knob involves removing a few clips in the trunk.

Yeah, those are crap for the most part. Koni's are the real deal. Don't you think the stock shock setup and all of the legit suspension systems bolt up on the top for a reason? Those are good for hard parking (much like my crappy Stance's) though and cruising the streets.
