keyless remote stopped working after battery replacement

Please tell me i dont have to take it to the dealership and pay 80 bucks just to reprogram my remote.

did you put the battery in right?

nycgps 10-03-2009 08:32 PM

You messed something up

Try to start your car with the key,

if your key can start the car, try to change your remote's battery.

if it still doesnt work, your Keyless module is messed up. Dealership is a must.

took the old battery out. put new one in screwed connections back on how they were, dont see how i could have screwed up heh

Don't you have to recode your keys when you replace the key battery ( immobilizer)???

i changed the battery a while back. car has been running fine. i know i installed the battery correctly. kinda weird that the remote would stop working if the battery is disconnected

I changed the battery roughly 3 months ago. everything was fine after the change except the remote. i figured it was the remote battery so i changed that as well. im only bringing it up now because iv been on the forums discussing other things and thought id bring it up.

there is a possibility that you ruined your remote in the process (while swapping battery)

Only way to find out is visit dealership. :(

Remote battery or Car battery?

Although neither should cause the remote to stop working.
If you put a non-working battery in the key fob remote, I can see how the fob would not work.

If you did replace the battery in the key, take it back apart and replace it again, and make sure it is installed the correct direction too.

If your battery is good in the car and the fob battery is good. three more possibilities at this point. keyless receiver, keyless module, or one of a few keyless antennas could be bad (1 goes bad, the entire system goes into a disable mode). just have a diagnostic done! They can tell you specifically. I have been at it for 3 straight days now. checking harness, antennas, fuses, and receiver. today I am going to take the keyless module out. I have seen a few diagrams and it shows the immobilizer system is linked to the module. so this is definitely a bad idea. It could be power or completing circuit fuses and nothing important. It could also be very important links between the two systems.that is why I stated bad idea!!! I have seen posts about internal batteries in this keyless module going dead and being replaced. Mazda states that the keyless is not part of the immobilizer system. I wanna put that to the test. after that if my car doesn't start, I know that the immobilizer was part of the keyless system lol.... Gotta try something, worse come to worse, I will be going by a mazda dealership. oh yea, try checking the grounding brackets of all the modules and antennas. I didn't get that lucky but you might....

oreilleys, autozone, advance, etc usually have a KE remote tester. it just checks for a RF signal when you point the remote at the tester, this would eliminate the remote as the possible problem. if it isn't sending a signal then either you got a dead battery, installed it wrong or borked up the remote while installing the battery. the dealer has a similar RF key fob tester they should use before doing any major testing on the car, so if you can eliminate this step and the diagnostic fees involved you should start there.
