Key Fob Issue

I know this topic has been on many times...but

My original Key fob went out...(FCC: 41805) so I bought a new one exactly the same. Tried to program that one and my RX8 2004 will not respond to the new key fob. I am thinking the old one was fine. It might be that my receiver or whatever you want to call it went out on my car? I am finding it hard to find any information on where the receiver is located, what it looks like, how to trouble shoot...and so forth. Can someone post as much info they can on this subject? Videos would be nice.

Take your car to the dealer to have the key programmed. If I remember correctly, you need two working keys in order to program your new one while the dealer only need one. However, the receiver is located behind the glovebox.

No I am talking about the remote Key fob....not the actual key. Sorry, I should have made that clear.

I know It's behind the glove box. I don't know what it looks like. Could find much in a Google search labeled Key fob receiver for RX8...

Are there any additional tests I could Run by myself to check and see if the receiver is working? Also is there a fuse assigned to the receiver?

Key Programming

Yes...you need to take it to the dealer unless you have two working keys to get them in sync. If you have only one key that is working it can't be the receiver. If none of your keys are working it could be a bunch of different things starting at the fusebox.

As for finding the receiver...

OP, all RX-8 and 99.9% of Mazda's from mid 1990's use what is called PATS enabled or basically Immobilizer Secured via codes.

IF you are replacing actual Modules associated with the Key System then the Module and existing Keys and or Access Fobs have to be configured with in and out-codes.

For the average home guy unless you have access to Mazda IDS (MMDS) and on-line codes, you are wasting your time.

You have to go to a Mazda Dealer...or me.

As far as buying Access Fob Switches from eBay, be very careful as many just do not work or communicate with Immobilizer Modules.

OP, If you can supply me with your full RX-8 VIN (you show no 'signature details on your RX-8') then I can give you accurate information about Fobs and Keys and Modules, as there are about 5 different systems for RX-8's and NONE are compatible if paired with wrong or 'other' parts.

IF you are certain that the issue is not the key you purchased.

The next area to look is the control unit, it is by you passengers foot-well behind front door hinges, from the inside.

See parts EPC...this Key unit has to be configured at a Dealer..and is close to $500.00.

That is why I suggested make certain you purchased correct key first.
