Intercooler w/o a turbo?
This is a bit general, but if a cooler air charge is "better", could one put an intercooler into a car w/o a turbo?
|
Nevermind... just answered my own question. W/o compressing the air first, an intercooler would do nothing since the air going through it would be about the same temp as the outside air, and thus also the i/c... duh. It's 3:00 a.m.... I'm tired.... lol
(On a side note, "The Terminal" was pretty good) |
i was going to say the same thing. :D

I read somewhere that the new Dodge truck (the one with the 500+ HP) was using a technique called a "cold shot".
I think the idea was to take a short burst (15 secs I recall) of cold air from the AC and route it to the intake. THis was supposed to give a temperary HP boost. Anyone heard of it? |
Yeah. We talked about a similar aftermarket version in another thread. Basically, the person suggested it as a replacement for NOS. I didn't agree. Interesting concept, but not very worth it, as far as I'm concerned.
Thread Here |
It's the F150 Lightning, I believe. It has a "reservoir" that stores pressurized cold air from the A/C while you're driving normally. Under full throttle, if filled, this reservoir releases this cold, high-pressure air into the intake tracts, with gains of up to 50 claimed hp.
