Intake and Cat question
I am thinking about having the stock air removed and having something better put in. However, I have to get my cat replaced very soon (gets red hot) and I want to make sure that they will still replace it for free if I have aftermarket parts. Will they? Please note that although I think I have a grasp on what I'm talking about- I may not. Feel free to judge. Thanks!

Year and mileage? Has a dealership actually said they will replace the cat? If not, just get an aftermarket midpipe, and be done with it. Power and sound is way better. What aftermarket parts do you have? That's kind of important. They pretty much have to prove the part in question is what destroyed the cat.

I would print this out and keep it in your car so when they try to deny you right away just because you have an after market part you can throw this in their face.
The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act (15 U.S.C. 2302(C)) This federal law regulates warranties for the protection of consumers. The essence of the law concerning new aftermarket auto parts is that a vehicle manufacturer may not condition a written or implied warranty on the consumers using parts or services which are identified by brand, trade, or corporate name (such as the vehicle maker's brand) unless the parts or service are provided free of charge. The law means that the use of an automotive aftermarket part alone is not cause for denying the warranty. However, the law's protection does not extend to aftermarket parts in situations where such parts actually caused the damage being claimed under the warranty. Further, consumers are advised to be aware of any specific terms or conditions stated in the warranty which may result in its being voided. |
It's an '04, It has between 45 and 50,000 miles on it. (I know, I should know this.) I don't have any aftermarket parts yet- just didn't know if everything had to be stock for them to replace the cat. A dealership hasn't said that they will replace it, I'm just assuming that they will. I guess when in question, just wait until after they replace the cat to change anything?

Like a Mazdaspeed/AEM/RacingBeat cold air intake? :naughty: The Mazdaspeed one is the only one they allow under warranty; if you use one of the others, save the OEM parts to put it back later if needed. If the cat is bad, get that first, do not put one more mile (of your warranty) on the car till that is done. I believe they extended some RX8 cat warranties to 100,000 miles? |
How come they only allow Mazdaspeed? Whats the difference than all the others? Just curious not meaning to steal post.

I ordered mine off the Mazdatrix website. http://www.mazdatrix.com/8ignition.htm

Get your cat issues and coil issues sorted before you think about an intake. The bad can ruin your motor.

Mazmart is cheaper on coils...no offense swampdonkey. Or go to autozone or advanced auto the part number is the same as the OEM's and a 2yr warranty. I have the BHR ignition but alot of guys are using the non oem ones

I love how they would try and freak out about the AEM one though... Haha.
If your coils are bad, it can make the cat get super hot. I think. If you have misfires, they will combust in the cat instead of the engine. That combustion creates a lot of heat. |
