I have researched engine ticking
Hey what's up everyone. Sorry haven't been on in awhile. I have a question, a couple of weeks ago I went to Colorado Springs and back in about two days. I let my car sit for about two days after and when I started her up there is a ticking sound coming from the engine. I did research and said it was probally a bad plug or wire not tight enough. I changed plugs and bought new wires and it is still ticking. It sounds faster with higher revs. I just seafoamed my engine today and it still ticks. My car has 41000. Is there anything else it could be. Thanks for any help you may offer.
Well I found another post about the same ticking noise and they said it might be carbon buildup so I seafoamed today and still the annoying tick. Please Help. Hahaha |
nop you didn't !!!!!!
here it is https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-trouble-shooting-95/clicking-ticking-under-hood-193461/ ........ |
Thank you. I'm going to look at that tomorrow. I did read the first part of the post but that was after reading many that said spark plug arc so I got tired but I do appreciate that.

Well too out the ssv and it was nasty. Cleaned it and the housing for it. Still ticking away. No cel. Good power. Just ticks. Any other ideas what it could be
|
first you need to identify where the ticking is coming from. i suggest getting a longish (3' or so) piece of tubing at the home depot and using it as a stethoscope to find where the noise is coming. or alternatively get a stethoscope.
put one end by your ear the other near various bits of the engine. check the alt, the water pump, the ac compressor and the manifold. check the plug area. dont get you hand stuck in a belt. |
Thought I read somewhere in a thread that there was a ticking sound that ended up being a bad motor mount? Zoom's obviously right in that you need to try and pin point it but............see if it's coming from the passenger side of the engine bay by the wheel well area?

Well thank you all for the help. I done everything and could not fix the ticking noise. Took it to Rudolph Mazda here in el paso and the tech said I needed a new engine and needs all the service records. Well needless to say I didn't have any since I do my own maintainance. Well they said bring receipts. I didn't have any and asked if bank statements with the local parts store would be good. They said they would try and I brought them in to get sent to corporate. Well after a day of nervousness I got the good word on a new engine. Whew. So in about two weeks I should be back on the streets.

|
Bomb counter. Hahaha. I picked the blue and was still ticking. I don't know what the ticking is or was. All I know is the service tech heard it and also heard a low knock and said I needed a new engine. I just gave them bank statements that read I was at least going to part stores and Mazda Corp. blessed me a new engine. So I guess that's good.
|
Well I am excited. Getting my 8 back in about an hour with a new engine. Can't wait.
|
Ticking is also a sign of an exhaust leak. But wether or not that was it you have a new engine.
Alternatively I had a ticking and turns out the a/c idler pulley was ticking, greased it up and it was gone. |
The tech said the ticking noise was coming from the rear of the engine and that is all I know. I asked if they knew what was wrong and the tech said they don't break open the engine. But all is good now. Drove it around for two days and no problems.
