How much should the 30,000 mile scheduled maintenance cost at the dealer?
 

I hope this is the right sub-forum, but I just crossed over 30k and called Mazda up, they're quoting me a ballpark of $460 for the job (not including spark plugs). I know the dealer is one of the most expensive places to get any service work done but this seems incredibly high for a car thats in near new condition :scratchhe, are they messing with me or is this normal cost? I love this car, worth every penny, but shes getting to be damn expensive.

that's about normal for what a dealer would charge. Doing it yourself would be much much cheaper.

Seems in line for dealer pricing, but a bit steep considering what is actually done.

Schedule 1 immanence interval says that at 30K you need an oil and filter change, a new air filter, and everything else is just inspection of lines and tightening of bolts and greasing of hinges. you might need a tire rotation too.

well i paid 36 bucks for it i mean it should be under warrentee sorry for the spelling

warranty is for covering things that break. Scheduled maintenance is not covered under warranty unless you own a BMW.

That's what I was thinking, I figured 1hr labor + ~50 in oil and filters. I would like to do this myself but I'd lose my "tires for life" program, guess I'll have to bite it.

I just did the 30k service (and more; at 20k miles) myself and it was far less expensive and I was able to select precisely what I wanted for 'plugs, fluids, etc. There's nothing in the 30k scheduled maintenance that you can't readily do yourself.

The 'tires for life' isn't that great of a deal, as again you don't get what you would like. Plus, you don't learn anything.

You just had to go and use the "L" word :icon_no2:. About the tires I had 2 replaced already and they do go with the OEM bridgestones and not some cheap-o brand. But still not sure if I want to spend $400 bucks to keep the program if I'm planning on getting larger wheels next year anyway. Car also came with an extra set of plugs so all I'd need to do this myself is the fluids+lubricants...

The OEM Bridgestones aren't very good imho.

Changing the 'plugs is easy. Just remove the driver's side wheel for straight in access to all four. A socket extension with a 'wobble' joint is helpful. Use some anti-sieze paste. Check the DIY forum.

Not really. I'm sure the dealership just does an [eyeball] check on nuts & bolts, as most other items on the 30k list. You can do the same.

The only loose nuts I tend to see in RX-8's are drivers.

NJrotary, you sure they didn't just give you an oil change for 30-50 bucks? That's about right for a dealership oil change, full inspections are always more for no good reason.

How much do you think tires cost?!!?

Do this one job yourself and you've already saved nearly $400. Another couple hundred buys you a whole new set of tires right there. And huey is correct, the factory Bridgestones are nothing special. Plus you're thinking of getting aftermarket rims? F$&K the dealer.

now i have 52k on the car but wat i rememeber i jsut paid like 36 for the oil change and they at the dealershit said they did the 30k inspection. but it was long ago or where i live or the guy just did it cuz he cool friends with my father

i paid 600 for toyo proxes 4 225/45/18 i think it was good price mounted and balanced

I had the 30k and 35k maintenance done at the same time, it ran me about $330. Just a heads up, if you have a 2007 model, no maintenance is required on the automatic transmission for 100,000 miles.

I will post some DIY spark plug change and coil change soon ... with pictures of course.

Raining pretty hard lately ... no mood to make DIYs ...
