How much to have the throw out bearing replaced

How much to have the throw out bearing replaced..? its driving me crazy, it sounds awful..

carbonRX8 07-26-2010 10:46 AM

Well, the TOB is, like, $35, were you to do it yourself.

You know, they ALL sound terrible. Even when new.

Give more info on your vehicle when asking tech questions pls (year.. mileage, last clutch job). You probably will want a pro "clutch job" not just the throw out bearing.

AlpineMica 07-26-2010 10:59 AM

2004, 85,000 Miles.. got the car recently - original clutch.. the clutch itself is great, doesnt slip, grabs early.. but the bearing rattles when off the clutch..

AlpineMica 07-26-2010 11:00 AM

well - i assume its original.. theres no record saying anything about it

carbonRX8 07-26-2010 11:01 AM

Wait, so you hear it with clutch in or out?

AlpineMica 07-26-2010 11:17 AM

when the clutch is Not engaged - it rattles and such... push the clutch in and the noise goes away - which is the classic symptom of a bad throw out bearing

Go48 07-26-2010 11:47 AM

Probably just the transmission main shaft running on ball bearings. The throwout bearing would tend to make noise with the clutch engaged. A well known phenomena with this car. Do a search and read some of the posts and you will see what I'm referring to.

clutch out engaged, clutch in disengaged.

Actually, it's the opposite of the symptoms for a throw-out bearing. As mentioned above, this is more or less normal, they all do it..

Red_Fox 07-26-2010 01:59 PM

I well since u have to drop the transmission to change out the throw out bearing and it's about a 6hour. Job probably expensive I'm guessing

AlpineMica 07-26-2010 02:42 PM

You are right sir - clutch out = engaged... So what i meant to say is when it is Not engaged, it makes a sound. but if its normal then its normal
