How Loud is The Muffler Delete?

I am tight on money and would like some sound for the summer. and i was just wondering how loud it would be if i replaced the muffler with a straight pipe? i have heard some people say really loud and i dont want to get pulled over... my boyfriend has a GTO with headers and magnaflow catback... it wouldnt be as loud as that, would it?

please help stuck here :/

ken-x8 06-17-2009 09:17 AM

It would be loud. I suspect the police would agree with me.

If you want sound for the summer, why don't you put some Beach Boys tunes on your ipod?

Ken

It would be louder than the GTO... rotaries are loud engines

mebbe somone has a cheap used intake... those add noise

It's very, very loud. I have a race catback made up for my car that's just a straight pipe with a resonator. It's fine for autocross, but I always swap back to my street exhaust afterwards.

Here's a video of my co-driver in the car at the Dixie national tour earlier this year (race exhaust is on the car):

If you want a deeper sounding exhaust, I'd save your money and either get the Mazdaspeed version 2 catback (dual muffler) or the Corksport! I've run both of these on my RX-8 and they sound awesome.

It's about this loud stock:
vroom vroom, brap brap brap brap,

It's this loud with no muffler:
WAAAAAAA WAAAAAAA, VROOMMM VROOOOMMMMM, BRAP BRAP BRAP BRAP!!!!!!!!!!

;)

^haha....i say just go with a resonated Midpipe for some sound.....make it louder but not tooooo bad.....of course depends with a resonated will b nice....without I hear is crazy ass loud too!

Vyndictive 06-17-2009 10:09 AM

Yeah... i would say do a cat-delete pipe before a muffler delete. Midpipe is an easier swap, cheaper, and will gain you as much horsepower as you can without going F/I. It'll be loud and shoot flames... "Its win-freakin'-win baby!"

But... you'll be emissions illegal and harming the environment.

If you're on a tight budget and still want an exhaust that gives you thrills and chills I would suggest the HKS Hi-Power exhaust. It's one of the loudest mufflers for the RX-8 but coupled with the stock cat the sound is incredible. However, you may not like the looks of the HKS Hi-Power since it's single sided.

Here's a YouTube clip.

The Vroom Box is also an inexpensive way to get noise.

ndhoffma 06-17-2009 12:11 PM

but, yeah... srsly, Ive heard someone who had a muffler delete before. It had a decent crisp sound, but It would def attract some police attention and give you a headache on the highway

04RX8man 06-17-2009 06:17 PM

yeah cops tend to follow the loud cars and even easier to find a Lightning Yellow soo...

You:0 Cops:2

natcakes 06-17-2009 10:43 PM

any good comparison videos?
or videos of straight pipe (i will keep the cat and resonator on...if that makes much of a differance)

PSTNLSS 06-17-2009 11:02 PM

Well the cat and/or resonator both act like resonators. So stock you have 2 resonators

Brettus 06-18-2009 12:18 AM

A good way to get a bit more sound without spending anything is to knock out the guts of the cat .
It won't be legal but it will be cheap LOL

natcakes 06-18-2009 12:54 AM

it has to be legal (parents and inspection is coming up)

i understand but what im saying is that if i remove the muffler with straight pipe (to the tips). and keep the factory cat and resonator it will still be really loud?

Yes. The mufflers play a huge roll in reducing the noise+rasp and changing the exhaust tone. I'm not the most experienced guy on the forums, but I don't think I have heard of anyone actually doing what you're trying to do. Most seem to use the single exit HKS how power or Racing Beat race exhaust, which both have a small muffler, but are still pretty loud, even with a cat.

Terrance26 had the SAME set up he said it wasnt that loud at all (all im doing is switching the muffler with a Y pipe to the tips

come on!

Guys I did allot of reading on here before just deciding to go out and get the muffler delete. One... Not half as loud as people on here say it is. Two... Take the information you get on here with a grain of salt. It's not like it used to be where people would give useful advice and information. There should be a troll button on here.

StealthTL 01-15-2015 12:47 AM

First post and wrong already.

Legot 01-15-2015 02:50 AM

HA!!!!! He's figured out out little trick! Rotories r just as loud with no mufflers as they are stock! Mane, the muffler is uzelezz, ya digs?

For future noobs, imagine what death by aluminum/chainsaw hail sounds like and that's about the noise with no muffler.

Somebody did ring the clueless noob button so I came a runnin' to see the latest addition ... nothing is loud when you're already deaf from exposing yourself to excessive noise levels. A self-fulfilling prophesy I suppose
