How long will the motor last?

I am thinking about getting an RX-8. I have been looking at a 5 speed. How long do these engines last? I have heard that they do not have a long life.

Are your clothes flameproof?

Mine was built in 5/2003 so it should last at least 4 years. But based on your post yours will not last that long.

That's why Mazda made them disposable. When the old one wears out just insert a new one and you're good to go. Zoom-zoom!

Base on my post because I haven't owned a rotary powered car? That makes sense.

The other choice was an S2000, but I am not sure what to get.

*Gore sigh........A properly maintained rotary will last as long or possibly longer than a piston engine.

Reading is fundemental.:spank:

Do you have one that can handle an "Easy ways to get HP?" thread? I was thinking about starting one, but I want to be protected first.

the engines barely cost $200 when you buy in bulk. So order a 6 pack and don't worry about it.

What if you get them from Costco?

It will probably last a long time if you take care of it, but it's a relatively new engine design so who knows really. General consensus based on past rotaries is that a NA rotary has good longevity if you maintain it properly.

rotarygod 05-23-2007 04:41 PM

I have seen rotaries last over 300K miles and just plain "wear out" before. But to get to this point you need to take care of them. They have also just suddenly failed well before 100K miles though so you never know. I don't think this is really any different than a piston engine. How you take care of it plays a very large role in how long it will last. How many miles do you intend to put on the car before you get rid of it? For the average owner, the engine will last just fine.

nycgps 05-23-2007 05:10 PM

Im pretty sure I will live long, cuz I know how to take care of myself properly.

Accidents might happen, but thats rare.

same thing for engines, if u take care of it, it will take care of you.

Simple enough logic, dont you think ?

maxxdamigz 05-23-2007 09:20 PM

I like to think of it this way - it's a lot like banging your head against brick wall and waiting till you knock yourself out. Those with thick skulls and weak necks will last all day. Some........not so much.

Give me any engine ever made and I can blow it in a weekend.

Get both, you can't go wrong with either.

mikeferz42 05-24-2007 03:53 PM

my dad's FC currently has 150k on it. well taken care of, oil change every 3K, fluid flush every 18K. that thing is 16 years old. only thing he's replaced are spark plugs, clutch, flywheel, brake lines, brake pads. more reliable than a toyota pick up if you ask him. rotary engines get better as you put miles on them granted that you don't dog it every chance you get. but then again my friend's rx7 has had 2 engines in it already and his engines never got over 60K. he also took that rx7 autocrossing and at least 6 times a year to laguna seca so that could be the reason why his engines didn't last.

can't go wrong with either an S2K or an RX8. if you like the extra pull when vtec takes over at 6K go with the S2K. if you prefer out of this world, super handling, get the RX8. if you get the 8, just don't complain about your mpg on this site.

eviltwinkie 05-24-2007 03:58 PM

As long as you dont masterbate...god will not kill your rotary...

If your constantly giving yourself friction blisters...try a honda...or learn to properly lubricate everything...

musclecarconvrt 05-31-2007 02:44 PM

I've got 73k on my 04 now and she still zooms along just fine.
