How do they hold the SSV in place
 

I need to replace my SSV, cuz now the CEL just shows up forever, the solenoid is probably dead.

My hand can reach to the rear of the upper Manifold, Im just wondering how do they hold the SSV in place, looking at the service manual, it seems that you can just slide it out of its socket or something. Is that true?

or its hold down by (plastic/metal)screws ?

if it can be "slide" out of its socket, I can just pry it off from the back, so I dont have to take the upper manifold apart.

Yes, it just slides in/out of its socket. It has a plastic clip that holds it to the vacuum chamber but I don't think you will be able to get it loose without taking the UIM off.

hmm, doesnt hurt to try, that piece its already broken anyway :)

oh wait, hmm, if I *force* it, will it break anything on the UIM ???? Thats the most important. :)

Is the SSV opening and closing properly?? If it is carboned up it will not open and throw a CEL. I had to fix one on Hitmans car.....it is an easy job....have to remove a bunch of crap in the way ( alternator :) )

The solenoids are very durable, I doubt that it is the problem.

I havent really look into that yet.

First CEL I got was p0662, that was like almost 2 yrs ago. When I first got it I have no idea wtf it was. research and research ... then my conclusion was push the car hard. Oh yes the CEL did go away for a couple of months, coming on and off on and off ...

Now, the CEL stays on with p0661. and the rpm that triggered it was like 700 some rpm. that means it probably just failed the self test or something.

but anyway, I will try what you said b4 I go ahead and order the part (or try to reach my hand into the back again ... oh yes it was a painful experience :()

Check and see if the SSV moves freely..the actuator is easily accessible and if it doesn't move...you will be able to tell very easily that it is stuck.

You can check the actuator if you have a small vac pump....disconnect the vac line...apply vac...actuator should open valve...If that works and the SSV still doesn't work normally..it is the solenoid. That will keep you from pulling the UIM unless you have to

where can I get a small vac pump ? -_- any ideas ?

Napa or any of the auto supply stores sell them.....or you can take off the hose and suck on it :lol: Usually if they don't work they have a ruptured diaphragm and it is kinda obvious.

Try the moving the lever on the valve first..that would be first on my list...

I haven't remove it yet cuz it was raining. Just wanted to be sure b4 I go ahead and remove the alternator :)

yes...It comes out and cleans easily. You can lube it up with a bit of oil when you put it back
