So I just wanted to warn people about the shock/strut/dampers available for the hoods. I had a few problems with mine sticking when trying to close the hood. It creased my hood real nice near where they mount. I'll take some pics and post them as soon as my new Seibon CF OEM hood arrives. Those will be my before shots. Cant wait to show it off. My suggestion if you have the dampers, is to close the hood from the side and push down where the dampers mount. Not sure if I will be using them for the new hood. I'm afraid it may crack if somebody closes the hood wrong? Any suggestions on a better lube for these? I have tried several so open to any suggestions.

Here a couple shots from this past week. I've been on vacation for 9 days. going back tomorrow. Went camping with the 8... deep in the woods! and a shot of my dad's shop, which is front of where we went camping....

which dampers are you talking about?

TRAVASS 11-11-2007 10:38 AM

just the generic ebay ones. BUT I assume that they all mount in the same spots. So I would take caution regardless.

Can't see the crease or the dampers - those pictures are not a good angle......

I have the european market oem ones which mount differently from the teins. Pics of how they are installed would help a lot.

+1
gotta be fitted correctly. No issues with mine after about 9month of use.

Yeah, I've had mine for about 2 years now w/out issues.

You need to get a truck.

i'm only assuming you had the mounting points to the hood real close to the hinges, right?

i'd put it more ahead( closer to the front of the car as possible) to avoid too much torque goin in to the mounting point to bend ur hood. i don't run hood dampers, but this is in theory anyways. but yea, moving the mounting points closer to the front of the car would be better.

if you can't get the concept, think of the hood as a torque-wrench...

So I totally understand why the hood got creased. The stuts work , but they get a lil stuck, maybe the heat wore out the lube inside. What is best to lube the strut? I have tried several things.

Also the pics were not intended to show the crease in the hood, but rather how stupid i am for driving it into the woods like that on a camping trip. pics coming soon...

Here is the passenger side. The damage is on the other side.

I have actually reshaped it back some. It was much worse.

Damn, that's some major flare on the driver side. the nrg dampers i got lifted the edges a lil, but i moved the bracket it came with to between the hood and hinge and it lowered back down to level. mine does have the problem of flexing when i close it, but there are no signs of it being flexed/flared when closed.
