honeycone grill can i drill it out?
i have a 2004 rx-8 just installed a lip kit on the car. while i was working on the front bumper i noticed that that honeycone grill on the front was solid. i always thought that it was open like my old f150 to get more air to the engine bay. MY QUESTION IS CAN I DRILL IT OUT SO I CAN GET MORE AIR INTO THE ENGINE BAY AND KEEP MY MOTOR A LIL BIT COOLER THAT WAY?
THANKS JAKE |

You should be able to drill some of it out. Someone around here took the whole thing off and put some wire mesh there. If air flow is your goal you might consider that.

Just make sure you have coolant on the engine at all times. You don't need extra air to cool the engine, just coolant is enough to cool it, even on hot and humid days.

time to read up on thermodynamics.... |
it can be done, but in your particular case I wouldn't recommend it
if you do it anyway the basic frame structure needs to be maintained as it provides support for the bottom lip across the large center opening |
