HID Conversion Question
What all is needed to convert the base model headlight package to HID as far as OEM? Does anyone know what this usually runs?

I too am interested in this, so far the only answers i have seen are "too much" so no one seems to have numbers for it. ANYONE?

The HID module is entirely different than the standard set up
Along with the different bulb/25kv bulb module (all self contained) you have to address the alignment sensors on the front and rear control arms. |
From what I have read...it's alot of work and it might not be worth it based on the person.
I have the base 6spd RX8 too and but I think my lights are GREAT! I might change them out to get more WHITE light but other than that I wont be messing with it. What I really wanted was the fog lights....I might add those later on. |
True HID's arent as simple as changing a bulb. You need to different hardware. I have yet to see a readl HID system for less than a $1000+. You get bulbs that mimic HID output, but unless you wanna spend way too much money, you will never get true HID

I got an aftermarket HID system and it wasn't hard to install at all. Given you have to take off your front bumber and remove your headlights. It's really easy. I mounted the Ballasts right above the oil-coolers. Then I put the igniters in the engine bay zip tied to the stock wires. All in all they look great. The whole thing took about two hours. And like I said in my other thread, most of the time I spent looking where to mount the ballasts. As a matter of fact I think I have a pic I took a while back with my phone. I'll check and post it here.
*edit* Here's where I mounted the ballast. It's Zipped tied on right above the oil coolers. http://img204.exs.cx/img204/9881/ballast5fc.gif |

I think the intent was to get it set up the same as OEM.
Many of Mazda6 owners have converted the standards to aftermarket as they are not available on the US built models. |

Friends of mine that have bought this kit say that it lasts around 2-3 yrs. I hope they're right.
Sorry about not reading the part where you wanted the OEM HID. That will run in the thousand dollar mark easy. With labor and all. |
I asked Mazmart who is a vendor here about changing the lights out. They were not cheap, and they told me the projector lights use a 4 wire ststem and the hid's use a 8 wire. They also said it would be very difficult to convert to a hid system. I have decided to just buy whiter bulbs and fog lights

I got mine for 360 including shipping a friend installed it for 70!!!!
