Help. warning lights randomly turned on.

I made the mistake of letting my friend borrow my 8 for a date last night and when i got in it to drive today, i started the car and my traction control and abs lights were both lit up. So i immediately called my friend and was angry but he swore that he did not drive it hard. and i honestly cant even think of anything he could possible do to make both of those things cut out. the car drives perfectly fine except both of the systems do not work. I have done quite a few things to my brakes and suspension and Im wondering if a sensor could just have messed up or something. I was thinking about just resetting the ECU and see if the systems start working again. does that sound like a good idea or does anybody else have any other ideas for things to do before i start taking apart my suspension system trying to find out what is wrong. If anybody has any ideas please let me know.

Thanks

Isn't there something about turning the wheel stop to stop to reset the system?

^^That would only be necessary if you disconnect your battery. The DSC OFF indicator light flashes and then you turn the wheel side to side.

Did these lights come on while you were driving or did they stay on while at idle (like when you first turned the car on)? If these illuminated while driving, I would first ensure that the parking brake disengaged. Resistance to the wheel hub (like if the brake was dragging) would throw-off the proximity switch for the speed sensor. If the brake was dragging, all you need to do is drive the car to clear the indication lights (once you corrected the dragging, of course).

If your brake fluid is low this could also occur.

Yes you could try a reset. You're probably referring to the KAM reset (which contain the sensor profiles) by doing the 20 brake depressing deal. Never hurts to try that, but I don't feel that this would eliminate the problem.

Are there any other lights that illuminate on the dash? Is the parking brake indicator on?

I took it out driving after and the lights never cleared. i have stopped and restarted the car multiple times. the parking brake was never dragging. and i dont know when the lights turned on because i was a dumb@$$ and let my friend borrow my car and he never noticed the lights. the only lights that are illuminated are the abs and the traction control (car on the winding road).

Alright....try this.

1.) Turn key to ACC.......do not start the car.
2.) Turn wheel all the way to the right.
3.) Turn wheel all the way to the left.
4.) Turn key off
5.) Wait a couple of seconds and then start the car as normal. Do NOT shut it off when it's cold, make sure you let it at least idle or take a short drive.

If that doesn't work, write back and let us know, but you should check that brake fluid level also.

My brake fluid level is fine. i check most of my fluids at least once a week. and the turning the wheel only works to reset the dsc not traction control. thanks though.

Okay, now go check all four corners and make sure that the ABS plugs didn't somehow come loose. If it was some spirited driving, it could be that.

That does suck. I recently had to replace mine on my Ford F150 because I was a little rough while replacing the ball joints and broke the switch in half.
If the harness is the only thing broken then thats good.
Attached is a diagram to help you check continuity and ensure you wire it correctly.
For the front-right connector you should have continuity between terminal AC on the DSC harness and terminal A on the ABS harness (which is signal). Then you should have continuity between terminal AE on the DSC harness and terminal B on the ABS harness (which is ground).
For the front-left connector you should have continuity between terminal AL on the DSC harness and terminal A on the ABS harness (signal). Then you should have continuity between terminal AJ on the DSC harness and terminal B on the ABS harness (ground).
You probably wouldn't cause any damage if these wires are swapped, it just wouldn't work. Good luck!
