I just took off my front bumber, i want to take teh stock intake piping out. my only concern is that there is a vacum hose to open up the fresh air duct. is there a way to bypass this or should i just leave it alone. there is alos a little black cage thing around teh fresh air duct should i aslo remove it ,

i ahev enclose some pics

the first pic and 3rd pic is the stock intake with fresh air duct.
the 2nd pic is the black box thing i was talking about.....
4th pic is car with no bumber

Disassembly.....

That system is called the VFAD long & short runners.

It is doing nothing constructive, now that you are taking warm air from behind the rad, instead of the 'tuned' cool air intake you had before.

You will get slightly cooler air to your filter if you take out that piping, but not much.

The only cold air is in front of that hole, anything that sucks 'aft' of that (Like that huge K&N you have....) is taking in radiator backwash. :o

Since the K&N isn't in it's own sealed box where the intake pipes directly feed it, you aren't getting any benefit by having them there. Remove everything and plug the vacuum line. Definitely find a way to get some shielding around that filter so hot engine bay air isn't being ingested. You are LOSING power over stock if you don't. Hot air is less dense air. Less dense air is less air. Less air is less power.

For the record if you go to K&N's website and look at their before and after dyno charts for the intake, It showed a 9.5 hp gain over stock. If we look a little closer we see that the runs were taken 3 days apart and the temperature difference was 10.7 degrees F colder when their system was tested! This doesn't even mention humidity difference between the 2 days. It also doesn't mention engine temperature. Of course they showed a gain!!! If they'd have dyno'd the stock system that day, they'd have made more power than the first run too. If in fact they ended up getting any gain at all, it was only because flow was increased at the expense of intake box tuning. They got alot more noise though. I hope you enjoy the sound of the K&N. That's what it is there for.

Sorry but I can't stop laughing at that: bumber.

What part of the car is that??? ;)

Was thinking the same thing... but the scary thing is there are 80+ threads with it spelled 'bumber'. It's not like the 'b' and 'p' keys are near each other, so apparently it's a new car part that I didn't know about :D

No no.... It's a new part of teh car we don't know about.... Seriously, are internet forums destroying my beloved English language, or are they just bringing it to my attention?
