Help on compression test
 

Hi guys, I'm doing a compression test on my 8 because recently my engine shut off on me while I was warming it up one day. After that, it never started again. So I'm trying to do a compression test to see if the seals are bad. I have an '04 manual transmission (sadly). Now, I'm using the regular compression test tool and I've removed the tiny piece inside the hose to increase maximum readings for compression. Also, I've disconnected the eshaft sensor and fuel injector sensor. So my question to you guys, am I suppose to remove all the spark plugs when running the test? Is there a sequence I should do this in, such as remove only the trailing plugs (both) and then test it? Or should I remove each plug one by one, then test it? A little help guys... Thanks... p.s. I'm doing this all by myself, please advise any little details or advice that'll help me out with my tests. Also, I'm recording the psi results on videos through my smart phone, and I'm getting different readings, such as 30, 35, 25 psi...

You need to know the rpm as well to get a proper reading. Only remove one spark plug per rotor , if you remove both it definitely works against you. Without the rpm readings your numbers don't mean much but they can give you a little bit of an idea. If you are seeing 30s then thats not good.

Are you sure you didn't just flood it?

First of all, you are using the wrong compression tester...u need one for the rotary...
Second of all, you are in 626 area, just contact Juni @ JRX... he can help you with compression.
However, shutting off while warming up could be other issues.
When is last time u replace ignition components?

I've had the car about 2 1/2 to 3 years now. I replaced the spark plugs last year. The coils, have not done so yet. I've seen on youtube where guys use the regular tester. Is this why I have inaccurate results? Thanks for the previous input guys.

You can start by cleaning your intake.
Replace coils and wires.
And hopefully you didn't flood it...

Without seeing the actual car, i'm just giving possible solutions.
