Have you ever returned an engine for a core refund?
Hello,
I have a Mazda remanufactured engine on its way. It should be here next week. In the meantime, I understand that I need to re-assemble my old engine for the core refund. I have it disassembled as far as it can be to inspect the parts (which is why I know I needed to go reman). Who has experience returning an engine for a core refund? How carefully and completely do I need to re-assemble this thing? Thanks. |
The dealers don't check anything, but I am not sure if it could come back later and bite you in the ass if the reman plant cracks it open and finds stuff missing.

Good advice from 9krpmrx8. Put all the parts back together, save yourself any latter headaches.

Sent a few back minus all the seals.....never heard anything back through the dealer network so likely they don't keep track of where the cores come from

Once they're at the dealer they don't look at them.

To close this out, I shipped my core loosely assembled. Honestly, that was sort of fun practice assembling a rotary. It's not really that difficult.
The engine spun, but I sure as hell wouldn't have tried to start it. It was also missing a couple very small things like an apex seal corner piece. But I made sure it had everything else, like a flywheel and all the other very visible parts. Core was processed. I ran the car in a NASA TT event a weekend after finishing the install and I crashed the car. So now I'm fixing all of that. Sigh. Thanks everybody. |
