Hard Shifting after 1500 miles.
Hi all:
I am new to the Forum. I have 1500 miles on my 8. When purchased the shifting was smooth on all gears except 1st, which I understand why, since the same thing happened on my 2000 S2000. For the last 100 miles, I have been getting intermitent hard to engage shifts, specially third gear. Even if I use the recommended low RPM shift points. Has anyone had this problem? I have taken care of my car since the beginning without abusing it, so I dont know what can be wrong with it. Any reccomendations or solutions? Thanks, Everett |
it's not clear what the symptom is.
what is "intermitent hard" to engage the selector?? |

change your tranmission/diff fluids
I had that same problem (mine was hard to engage 2nd, 3rd and reverse) but after the fluid change it was bolt action smooth again! though maybe different for your case, just a suggestion if worse comes to worse and nothing helps! |
Now that you mention it, I've had a little trouble getting it into 3rd. I thought it was just my poor shifting, but every now and then I'll try to get it into third and the gearbox denies me. Thought I just wasn't pushing hard enough. Maybe I'll take it to the dealer and demand a fluid change, then they can give me the M flash I've been wanting so badly....

It's like driving a new car!! Je,je! Cya! Everett |
Hey Guys!
Quick update! Called today a friend in the Mazda Distributor here in Puerto Rico. I explained the situation. He told me that they have seen that before, and it is solved by tightening the pressure plate bolts. I have an appointment 8:30am on Monday. Will keep you updated. C ya! Everett |
Well, thanks, Everett. Good to know. I suppose I'll be going in next week for that very issue (and the M flash, of course :) )

You may also want to put Royal Purple Synthetic in your tran. & diff. It's made a big difference...

Just wait until you get it back....it will feel great once the pressure plate bolts are tight.
My bolts loosened up a few weeks ago also. Also...the job only requires the removal of the starter. My tech told me the torque spec for the bolts is onlt around 20 lbs. He added locktite to each bolt just to make sure. |
Hello Guys!!
To update you, I picked up my car today from the Dealership. Pressure plate bolts tightened. My transmission feels silky smooth. Everything is working great kwno, better than in day one. I will change the trany and differential fluid this weekend. Thank you all for your guidance. Regards, Everett |
Hi All:
Quick update! My trans is getting hard to shift again. This sucks!! Called my Rep. They order a new transmission. They will replace upon arrival. Any chance this can be anything else other than the trans? Thanks, Everett |
