Got Car To Crank after Flood but now will not crank again
I used the procedure of taking out the fuel pump relay and turing over the engine to rid the excess fuel. After about an hour of doing this I got it to crank up.
I let the car idle for around 10 minutes and then drove it for another 10-15 minutes. I then cut off the car with the hopes that it would crank right up but it did not!!! It just turns over like it is flooded again. :banghead: Has anyone had this same problem? and what did you do? |
Dead battery...and flooded like a bitch :D:
Charge the battery....and pull start it........ Trust me...it will save you a lot of grief! |
When you say pull start...do you mean tow?
I have hooked another car to it so I dont know think it is the battery. I guess I just need to let it run a little while longer. |
I misread the first post......
So it was flooded...then running, and when you shut it off it won't start? Does it crank? Does it sound funny?...shouldn't be flooded again unless there is a major fuel issue. I'd still try and tow start it...pull at about 1o-15mph...let out the clutch in gear carefully..and wait till it starts...then drive it around for 1/2 hour or so. If it floods again or wouldn't start..then you should have someone look at it |
It turns over and does no sound funny. It sounds just like when it was flooded.
I think I am going to pull the spark plugs and turn it over this weekend. I have ordered new NGK's. I had 64,000 on the car and the warranty is for 60,000. Its just bad luck for me this week. |
Please give us more info and history on your car, year, miles, service done, spark plugs and air filters, anything you know. Also where are you next to your avatar....THANKS
|
Car is a 2005.
I had the recall completed on it about a year ago. I guess they would have changed the spark plugs with the recall. I have 64,000 and this is the first time it has been flooded. I am from SC |
Oh yeah...I had a midpipe but I put the cat back on due to some warranty work
|
That recall only replaced the leading spark plugs. So your trailing spark plugs may be overdue. However, that shouldn't have anything to do with your flooding twice.
Clean the same plugs and DRY them, like with a hair dryer. Do the purge procedure again, etc. Good luck. |
I just went ahead and towed it to the dealership. I know Im a wuss.
|
I burnt the starter up while using the deflooding procedure. It is costing me 620.00 for parts and labor so far.
|
I have a 05 as well. After a little reading, i pulled my fuel pump fuse and turn the ignition on. The car cranked once and and wouldnt crank again. After a few minutes, I repeated the procedure, but kept trying to start for awhile longer, put the fuse back in and the repeat. The car started. Problem solved in like 30 minutes.

You can get a REman starter from Mazmart for like what 250 bux and comes with 6 months warranty. and you can install it yourself with just hand tools. takes like what, 30 minutes the MOST. |
That $620 is parts and labor but no doubt a rip off. My car has never started up faster though.
|
Make sure you charge the battery fully before you replac the new plugs.
