Good news everyone,bought an engine

SO, as some of you might know , ( from an old post ) that my brother gave me his rx8, anyway, after long time fighting around , and was just this close of getting my self a non-rotary engine . (consider little cheaper)

2 nights ago , was about to get my self a bodykit for my eclipse.... when agood friend called, asked me what I am doing and told him about the eclipse,

he said, dont spend your cash on your eclipse, get the side cash you had for the rx-8 , add that bodykit money on it , see if you can afford a rotary ...

and after making some calls , I end up buying a JDM 13B with about 35-45K miles on it . complete with auto tranny and ecm etc, now all I need is to get that engine shipped to me , and so, I contacted few local companies and will get an estimate by tomorrow, hopefully my wallet can handle getting that shipped to me .

just wanted to shear the good news with you guys. and while waiting for the engine , (which will take about 2 weeks to arrive) is there anything good and worth doing to my car getting it ready for that engine to get fixed inside ?

Thanks :D

why did you go with JDM engine?

GK1707 02-09-2014 08:50 PM

JDM engines are typically cheaper than shelling out $4k to Mazda. Then again the sellers always claim 30-40k miles. Was there a compression test done? Where'd you buy it from also?

Good luck man, as far as I know (spoke with quite A LOT of those exporters in Japan)

90% of those engines (the ones u got) are usually on it's last leg ----- there is a reason WHY it's so cheap, in Japan, a complete long block engine with ECU usually cost less than 1K, most are within the 5-600 USD range, it depends on how "clean" the engine looks, NOT how many miles/compression numbers are.

just think about it, what kind of quality long block can u get for such dirt cheap prices? Simply put : "those are fucking junk, no one in Japan wants it, so hey, someone is paying us more than it's worth for it, Why not sell it to them? oooosh!"

one more thing, i hope u know that Japan is RHD and US is LHD, the harness is NOT the same and 1/2 the rx8 sold in Japan has no immobilizer, so the main harness is gonna be different, with different ignition lock, and of course the harness length will be different(RHD/LHD)

I don't remember exactly how many harness are the same, as far as I remember Engine Harness is the same, but the rest of the stuff ... good luck

Thank you all for your kind reply
I bought the engine from Home
after contacting them and they insured me that the engine is in fully working condition and still in good condition .
and cost me 1700$ + shipping .

as for RHD , my car is imported from japan , and converted it locally to LHD , so it's not a big deal for me

TO BE HONEST , after reading what you just say , I am a little bit confused and scared in the same time ..... hope I didn't ****ed things up -___-

the engine should arrive this weekend , will keep you updated .
Thank you all , and wish me luck

of course it's fully working, I never said its not, and everyone's "good condition" is different.

so all I can say is good luck with ur purchase buddy.

with how finicky the renesis is to compression it's just people's weariness of the engines to start with. even the older RX7 engines had a poor track record for the imported japanese engines.

you can always do a compression test on it before installing it, just don't crank the engine for too long while dry.

Best of luck man. Should have asked about compression. When I was looking to replace my engine, I called a bunch of places. If they could not give me compression numbers, then I just went on the next place. Now that I have a good motor, I will consider getting one with low compression to rebuild and have as a spare if it is needed.

Guys I am looking for a JDM engine for my RX8.

jamescannondale 02-19-2016 09:55 AM

My friend's car needs an engine. It is automatic 2008 model.

jamescannondale 02-19-2016 09:56 AM

He bought a junk yard engine last week but had to return it.

jamescannondale 02-19-2016 09:58 AM

Can someone recommend a good source for JDM engines ?

jamescannondale 02-19-2016 09:58 AM

I live in Houston, Tx and all I find is junk yards here. I don't feel comfortable getting from out of state unless someone here recommends a good source.

jamescannondale 02-19-2016 10:00 AM

Yay !!! I found Engine World Inc when I searched for used Japanese engines on Google. Their website is Japanese Engines | Used Japanese Engines | Used Japanese Engine | JDM Engines

They are offering RX8 engine for $2000 with 6 months warranty. Has anyone bought from them before ?

What makes you happy about it? Is it the unknown? Risk can be exciting.
