Going On Vacation.. What should I Do?

ok, Im leaving to PR for almost 2 weeks, and I have some concerns regarding my RX. Does my car needs to be turned on daily in order to prevent a DEAD RX8 when I return. If so, should the car be turned/warmed up everyday, or every 3 days or so. I am also going to try leaving the gas tank empty. I"ve heard thats a good Idea.

My car sat for 1.5 months this winter and the battery did not go dead (bad form on my part for not properly winterizing, but I didn't expect it to sit that long). For 2 weeks I don't think you need to worry.

I would not leave the gas tank empty. An empty tank allows for condensation to form inside if there happens to be big temp changes, or rust to form on the inside of the tank above the fuel line (although this probably takes more than two weeks). I always try to leave my tank full. If i think it will sit long enough to degrade the fuel, I throw in some stable.

Yeah, two weeks is nothing. :P

Up in Canada this winter I had my car sitting for 3-4 weeks unable to go anywhere because of being Snowed in. Started like a champ when the snow cleared.

ok thanks. So 2 weeks should not be a problem.

Just to be safe you can throw in some StaBil into your gas and go to walmart and buy a battery maintainer for like 25 bucks. This will keep your battery charged without over charging it. I keep one on my bike during the winter and it starts up every year without any problems. When you get back let the car warm up fully before driving it.

yeah 2 weeks is nothign my 8 sat 2 winters ago for like over 4 months...and battery was dying but stilll had enough to fire it up....i'd just make sure ur tank is somewhat full to keep the condensation from building up....

Have not heard of a Plastic RX-8 Fuel Tank Rusting before?

2 weeks is nothing to worry about apart from missing the rx-8 blues. I know there was a few weeks when it snowed alot that I drove my wife's mazda6 to work. Boy, do I miss the 8! And when the road dried out, I was like a kid at a toy store!
