Gear Selection problems at idle

My 2004 6 speed manual is sometimes hard toget into gear when stationary (first or reverse gears). when the car is moving I have no trouble engaging any gear. The problem is worse when the car is hot than when it is cold. any suggestions?
Thanks

bleed the clutch and adjust the pedal height

Well, my '79 Porsche won't do it either - I need to shift into second and roll forward a couple of inches.

This problem comes from either of two sources: either an incomplete disengagement of the clutch; or internal problems with the transmission (syncros, to start).

I'll assume you are out of powertrain warranty.

Work at this from least to most expensive...

Flush your clutch fluid. Ensure pivots at both ends are clean and greased. Check your pedal assembly for cracked welds.

Change your trans fluid. Redline (my fave), or Royal Purple, or whatever you choose. Search the forums for advise.

Replace your clutch. It may not be releasing fully.

Rebuild your transmission. The syncros are shot.

Or, do what I do with the Porsche - Just put up with it~! (when I rebuilt the tranny in the mid 90's, we couldn't source a $40 part. I now have the part for the next rebuild in another ten years. LOL)

I have changed both master and slave cylinder on the clutch. I have also looked at the clutch pedal mechanism and all that is tickety boo. The clutch components were inspected when the engine was replaced a few months ago. I suspect that the friction plate is not moving freely on the splines. My next move is to take the gearbox out and relook at the clutch components.

do a little test on a flat road . engauge 1st gear with clutch fully depressed. At idle very slowly release the pedal . How soon does the engine start to falter ?
Straight away would indicate you have insufficient pedal travel/slave cyl travel. This could be fixed without removing the gearbox .
If it does not falter till the pedal is 1/4 the way up or more , your problem is in the gearbox .
