Gas leak right here.
1 Attachment(s)
Hey guys, I smelled gas from inside my car, and when I took my rear driver side seat off, the smell got stronger. Apparently gas is leaking from that tube with the green ring. Help?
|
If hose is not cracked, I would put a metal hose clamp on it.
If cracked and tube is long enough... cut the hose and use a metal clamp. Or take it in to a mechanic. |
Hm, well I got 1/2 a tank left. Im planning on running my car almost dry so that I can actually take the tube off and examine it. Will post updates in a few days.
|
Well, after a closer examination, there was a crack on the "L" looking this on the fuel pump. So I just got a new one.

^ Yep.

Yeah, that picture IS the fuel pump. Its right below the drive side passenger seat.

Arent the OEM fuel pumps crap? Now your scaring me cause I have been smelling gas for a few months inside the car ever since I got the 30,000 inspection and servicing from the dealership and never put two and two together.
|
I dont know if its crap or not, but my car has 87k on it right now. So ..

mrinno I've got the same exact problem! I started with changing the green little rubber band thingy inside the quick connect but no good. So when I put my finger on that L tip coming from the fuel pump a wide spray of gas sput out from the bottom. Tried some temporary fix's but no good.
So new pump it is, just one question. How the heck do you remove the fuel pump? Read the service manual and on the illustration I saw a claw like thing used, I guess, to pull those teeth around the pump ring so as to be able to turn it, don't really know. |
i think BHR has some pictures about how to install.

Mazda's official tool is pretty expensive. You can fab one yourself or go to a machine shop if you have the ring with you. Or, if you wanna be ghetto u can use a flat head screw driver, put some tape on the tips so it will not ruined the teeth on the ring, tap it slowly until it comes off. but most of the time you will damage the ring so u still need to buy a new one. if you buy the pump from BHR, you can put a deposit down and they will send you their fuel pump removal tool. to do the swap, make sure your fuel level is really really low, or else the fuel is going to be everywhere and hope that u won't light it up. when installing the pump, make sure its leveled and the tube inside the tank is not in the way. |

Dont buy another OEM or you may be in the same boat down the road.. BHR seems pretty respectful here in the forum and they have great aftermarket goodies.

I've been reading up on BHRs' pump and it seams they use the OEM housing just add the walboro pump to it. Might break again sooner or later. Considering the miles I've got on the current pump its not as bad.

I borrowed the fuel pump removal kit from autozone. Took around 15-20 minutes for the while job. How far are you from los Angeles?
|
about 4 hours... Is it standard or make and model specific? Thanks for the info.

Anybody do anything after the new fuel pump was installed? Like an ecu reset or something.
|
Well, I unplugged my battery before I even touched the fuel pump. So I guess ECU restarted.
