Is a FX racing flywheel safe?
I need to replace my exedy heavy duty clutch, and want to do so with somethings thats OEM style. My question is, i found this.
http://pages.ebay.com/motors/link/?nav=item.view&id=151268865179&alt=web Claims to be an oem replacement exedy. Witn the flywheel. Would it be safe? I plan to track the car a few times out of the year, but dont want it shattering on me. The alternative would be duralast clutch (lifetime warranty), fidanza flywheel, and F1 racing counterweight. Im just kinda sketched about how that ebay one cost what a singular flywheel does. On that note, the f1 racing counterweight. t $120 on average compared to $300 for ACT or exedy. Is there a quality difference between the two considering its just basically metal that weights a certain lbs. Keep in mind, I'm not rich, and i am on a budget. But if i have to spend $1200+ on a clutch, and lightweight flywheel, it means id be without an rx8 for 2 months or more while i get the funds. |
What's the problem you're trying to solve? Do you need to replace the flywheel? Can you just change the clutch and call it a day?

I mean I can't tell you a cheap flywheel will be safe. I can't even tell you an expensive one will be safe lol. Invest in a ballistic jacket if you do decide to risk it?

Would you sleep with a striper without using protection?
Do your research and determine a goal for your car and make educated purchases based on that. What's worth a risk to you may not be the same for me... |
Just so u know, there ARE fake Exedy Clutches, and I can bet this one is FAKE
they will ship you something that looks like exedy Box, but the label is wrong, and as soon as u open the box u can tell its fake right away, the construction is horrible. Exedy has information on their site to tell u what a fake one generally looks like I bought a cheap exedy clutch off ebay 2-3 yrs ago just to see what a fake one looks like, and as expected, the clutch is fake, I send the seller a msg, he did not dare to say 1 word and give me a shipping label to return, and refund was probably the fastest I've ever seen from a ebay seller(cuz in the msg I said if I dont see my refend fast I am going to report his ass to the cops and Exedy, but I did it ANYWAY and his ebay store was shut off about a month later ) if u think blowing up clutches is fun, or if u think a flywheel that blows up and cuts ur leg off is cool, then go ahead get them from Ebay. |
I can already spot a few areas that will cause problems, its the same exact shit I bought to take photos years ago.
good luck to your leg |
While you have the transmission out, see if you can line the car's sheet metal around where the clutch sits with ballistic Kevlar. You can buy the fabric by the yard, it's cheap insurance in case things start coming apart. Don't mean to scare you, but when dealing with unknown quality parts, better to have it and not need it than catch shrapnel with your body.
There are also SFI-certified ballistic blankets on Ebay around $100 (hopefully not fake ones ;)) |
