Someone posted some info after this post:

Fumoto Valve

If you are not familiar with this device, it is a very nice brass valve that replaces your oil drain plug. It is a well made ball type of valve with positive action that you open and close with your fingers - no tools needed. It makes oil changes easier, and you don't even get hot oil all over your hand or have to fish the plug and washer out of the old oil. The decision to replace the washer or not each oil change is moot.

I ordered the correct F106 model and also the same one for my Miata. The Miata needs the ADP106 extension to clear the pan. It turns out that the extension is also required for the RX-8. There is no listing for the RX-8 yet.

A good source is www.lubespecialist.com .

Heh, guess we were thinking along the same lines. I posted this before this post:

I decided to order one too. I was too late for the discount code though. What kind of washer does this require?

syntrix 01-01-2004 01:04 PM

Comes with all you need. Looks like you do need the extension.

Mine arrived in lik 2 business days. I was rather surprised ;)

I read what classicred said and ordered w/ the extension. I haven't changed my own oil since I had my RX-7 which is 15 years ago :p

DOH! That's a long time!

Worst part about the fumoto... after you install it, you can't use it until your NEXT oil change. I guess that's not a bad thing though ;)

I placed an order for a Fumotovalve too and have also been thinking about adding Speed Bleeders to make bleeding the brakes a one person job. Now I just need to figure out what size will fit. ;)

syntrix 01-01-2004 08:23 PM

Email them at speedbleeder@earthlink.net and ask what fizzle fits the shizzle.

Speed Racer 01-01-2004 08:34 PM

I e-mailed them before the holidays and never received a response. I figured that I would try again next week when the holiday bustle is over. :)

syntrix 01-01-2004 08:59 PM

I emailed them and got a response about an hour later:

The size(s) that you need for your application is as follows:

Front.....SB8100
Rear......SB7100

When ordering Speed Bleeder consider ordering the Bleeder Bag and Bleeder Hose Combo.
The Bleeder Bag resembles an IV bag that is used in hospitals and the hose is silicone tubing that is specifically
sized to fit our Speed Bleeders. It is flexible, won't fall off while bleeding and is unaffected by brake fluid.
The Bleeder Bag and Hose Combo prevents an unnecessary mess. Both are reusable.

The Combo is priced at $6.00 and is a great value.

Speed Bleeders can be ordered at https://www.speedbleeder.com/order.htm

Thanks for your interest in Speed Bleeder.

I'm going to start a new thread about this.

these guys have had good stuff for us veteran sport bike owners, I'm sure it will go very well on the RX8. I might order in a few weeks, as it's good to flush the brake fluid every year or two ;)

Syntrix -

Did you put the valve in yet? I'm not sure if this a problem on the 8 but the threads seem to extend past the bottom of the oil pan on some cars, did you find this to be a problem?

I was thinking of getting my Dremel and drilling 2 small holes or cutting a small "V" to let the all the oil drain if the threads do extend beyond the bottom of the pan.

I saw a pic of what someone else did for another car on a link on one of the other threads.

syntrix 01-02-2004 05:32 PM

Haven't installed it yet. Probably at least 2 weeks away, but I almost got a wild hair and installed it last night.

i3man 01-02-2004 05:44 PM

I'm planning to install the 1st weekend I get it. I've got 600 miles now and want to change oil before 1000 miles.

Knerk 02-26-2004 09:25 PM

Did any of you guys install your valves yet?

syntrix 02-26-2004 09:39 PM

Not yet, but I think I'm due for an oil change this weekend.

Knerk 02-27-2004 12:06 PM

Very cool - I shoud get mine in a few days - I will change my oil 150 miles early just to get it over with.

Speed Racer 02-27-2004 12:28 PM

I tried installing mine but I found that it wouldn't fit. The top of the valve is about 1/8" too tall and it hits as you try to screw it in. It is so close to fitting that it is a bit frustrating that I had to revert back to the normal drain plug. Hopefully everyone else will have better luck.

Knerk 02-27-2004 12:49 PM

did you get the adapter w/ it ?

Speed Racer 02-27-2004 12:58 PM

No, that might explain why it doesn't fit.

Knerk 02-27-2004 01:17 PM

I looked at the plug before I ordered. It looked kinda tight so I got the adapter - figured I would return it if I didnt need it. I guess I will need it

Knerk 03-22-2004 12:09 PM

Well I put it on yesterday- fits like a glove- pretty cool little gizmo .- Ill try and post some picks in a few days
