I'll tell u what tho...even with that adaptor, when I waas screwing in the actual valve onto the adaptor...MAN...did they cut clearance close on the head of that valve! You'll see once you install it. At one point of the screwing (best wording I can imagine :-P ), the space between the valve and the steel next it it has about enough space to slide a piece of paper between it! Heck, even after I screwed in teh adaptor, I was thinkin...there's no way it's gonna miss that.

Success though!

and just to clarify since the pictures are a smidge fuzzy, there is a VERY VERY slight down gradient to the angle, but it's so minute that I had trouble even capturing it. Although the oil pan sits very slightly higher then the valve, there are still numerous panels that do flush LOWER than the valve, so your covered.

I ordered it already.

Im going to change my oil in hmmmmmmm by the end of next month ?

then Im going to install it hehehe

El Kabong 03-11-2007 07:53 PM

Can you put a Fumoto or Fram-type drain valve on the gearbox or the differential?

swoope 03-11-2007 08:02 PM

i dont know, but i am doing an oil and tans and diff change tomorrow. i will see if it will fit...

i dont really see the benefit as you change the diff and tranny every 30k miles..

do me a favor send me a pm and remind me to do this for you.

beers

I have tons of oil coming in tomo, amsoil and RP. some for me some for my family.

Im thinking maybe I should get a valve for everybody in my family .... cuz Im lazy to break the bolt everytime I want to change oil, I just open the valve, go have lunch, come back, happy !

I'm looking at buying one of these for my new 8 and after perusing the forums I have noticed that some people say to get the F106 with the ADL 106 adapter and others saying to get the F106 with the ADP 106 adapter. I've been trying to figure this out, but which adapter version is it? ADL106 or ADP106? Also, anyone who has the Fumoto valve have any approximation on how long it takes for the pan to drain completely? Anyone have issues with the spring loaded lever getting stuck or not functioning after a few years of use?

# Adapters(ADP-104,106,107,109) - 9/16" in length
# Adapter(ADL-106) - 15/16" in length

Also, when installing the valve with the adapter...is it oil pan-->gasket-->adapter-->gasket-->valve?

Thanks

anyway, #6 is the one you want. (F106 with ADL106 adaptor)

Took less then a week to get it in via $4 basic shipping...and that was to OHIO!

I'm already pumped about actaully using it for my next change! After installing it, I dropped the car back down and straightened the wheel up...and I could open and close the valve WITHOUT even lifting the car up...and with an amazing amount of ease!

Having used both suredrain and now fumoto, i'd have to say that the tough tie-breaker is gonna have to go to fumoto...simply because of the no-tools-needed appeal. However, suredrain has yet to have any problems with durabilty...something I can't speak of yet with the fumoto.

Throw one on for $32 total shipped. For the simplicity of draining, matched with the no-tools deal, it's an awesome product! :)

Reference for ADP 106 adapter found in this thread: https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...t=fumoto+valve

Ok, upon further inspection on the fumoto valve website
"RX-8 requires "ADL106" adapter to install the valve."

So I guess I answered my own question.

i usually eat dinner while I wait for the oil pan to drain completely via the valve, so i never actually timed how long for the thing to drain completely, but i say definitely within a good 5 minute or so. for comparison, with stock bolt the pan drains completely in couple minutes tops. overall though it saves me TONS of time because i don't have to jack the car up to drain the pan, just reach under and flip the switch :ylsuper:

and i've had mine now for 2.5 years and 53k miles, the valve still functions perfectly like the first day i bought it

Thinking of getting the Fumoto.....

beat me to it! But yea, i remember asking the same question and feeling uncertain. It is indeed the ADL you want, not the other.

And for anyone else thinking about it, it's probably the best sub-$50 mod i've did to the car. It's SOOO nice not having to get under the car to do changes anymore! Saves you a lot of time jacking and/or pulling onto ramps!

Go for it! :ylsuper:

I've got the Fumoto... completely happy with it. No clearance issues and oil changes are much easier now.

Stavesacre21 04-12-2007 10:28 AM

i too thought that clearance would be an issue, but the valve sits up high enough that it would much sooner catch on a number of things before it would catch the valve. And the handle that opens and closes the valve shouldn't be a worry either...it's so secure and sits in a safe enough postion that it would never be an issue. It really is a great buy.

Haven't timed it, but I let the oil drain while I go about replacing the filter. By then it's down to a drip. I usually do something else for awhile and let it drip but that's probably just being anal -- I doubt if more than another couple ounces come out after that. The drain is definitely slower than with just the drain plug but it's still a stream as wide as one of those fat pencils they used to give us in 1st grade. Doesn't take too long for 4 quarts to drain at that rate.

I've had the Fumoto installed for 3 years now; no problems with the lever or seal. It's worth it for safety reasons alone. Not to mention not having to worry about that silly crush washer. :)

CarAndDriver 04-13-2007 12:43 PM

After looking on eBay and online, I went with the Fram Sure Drain (SD-2) since I found a seller on eBay selling it for $6.70 shipped. The savings justified trying it out first.

I don't think I will be using the little rubber hose that comes with it though. Seems like more of a hassle than a help.

I guess I am in the minority, but I have been happy with the Fram. Here is pic of it installed. I have done 11 oil changes since that photo and it still works well. The oil drains slow, but during that time I remove the filter, get the new oil ready, grease the fittings on my sway bars, walk around and admire my car etc.

Thanks for the pics. Do you use the tube? The second pic confused me because I didn't realize that was the dust cover on it.

grinn253 04-14-2007 12:06 AM

I too have used the Fram Sure Drain on the RX-8 and other vehicles. Like others mention, it drains slow but works well.

edit: I use the tube, and drain into 1 gallon orange juice or milk containers. When finished i just replace the cap on the container again and store or bring to the auto parts store for easy disposal :spank:

Laters!

x2. works just fine.. it is slow, but you need to take the time to get as much oil out anyway..

Stavesacre21 04-14-2007 02:09 AM

yea i've got 2 fram sure drains...one on the probe and one on the cobra. As mentioned, they work great too. Hair slower than the fumoto, but still a success without the mess.

One thing I didn't like about the fram was the tube...for some odd reason, i always misplaced it around here, and have to spend more time looking for it then actual time i work on the car.

khoney 04-14-2007 10:28 AM

I used the Fumoto on both my RX-8 and Trooper. No problems at all with them. It's a very well-made product. I don't see clearance being an issue on the 8 unless you encounter some really bizarre situation.

You could always throw it in a couple small ziploc freezer bags and throw it in the 8 somewhere.

Stavesacre21 04-16-2007 01:31 AM

nah...then i'd just lose it in that back seat...because it's obviously so friggin huge :D:

I guess you should get the Fumoto!

Got my Fram Sure Drain from the eBay vendor today. Looks good. Came with the copper crush washer and all the various parts.

By the way, discount code YM4 nets 10% off(3.30) on the fumoto

Stavesacre21 04-22-2007 05:41 PM

wow...that's a nice tip-off! Thanx for the heads up worm
