Fuel pump installed backwards?
 

I installed a new fuel pump in the fuel pump assembly today and my car is feeling a lot better but I remember when I put the lower cup of the assembly back on the fuel socks shape didn't really match the grooves of the lower cup housing but it fit anyways.

After seeing pictures of the stock fuel pump it looks like I put the fuel pump in 180 degrees backwards if my memory serves me right.... I didn't think it was possible I just figured it could only go back one way but I guess they made those three plastic tabs that hold the fuel sock on separated evenly so you can put it on three different ways...

Maybe im just crazy and it only goes back one way?

Since it is working fine should I worry about ripping everything apart again to look into this?

im not sure if installing it backwards would effect anything but ...

if I were u I just gonna Take it out again to make sure its right, it just gonna cost u a gasket, or the retaining ring and some of your precious time. :) better than something goes bad, run lean, Boom :)

lol I took it back apart today and indeed I did put it in the wrong way, I rotated it 120 degrees and put it in the right way and I like the fit glad I did it. The key is just make sure the flat side of the sock goes in against the flat wall on the housing

Car had 175,000 kilometers on it with original fuel pump before I just put this new OEM Arram fuel pump in and all I can say is WHAT A HUGE DIFFERENCE! My rx8 is the only one I ever driven so it always felt decently fast to me since I purchased it with 133,000 kilometers on it but now it feels like a new car, especially high in the rpm's :) Super happy now I just need to get my low mileage oem shocks with lowering springs installed!! my oem shocks are blown and ride like complete crap right now

As for the lowering spring, you might wanna think twice before u install it with new oem shocks, oem shocks designed with oem springs in mind, which is taller/higher/longer, when u use oem shocks with lowering spring, it means your oem shocks are compressed at all times, which will shorten the life of the shocks.

Im super happy I changed my fuel pump, I really didn't think it would make much of a difference but wow.... finally have real power up high and the power output is very consistent instead of feeling fast one day then feeling super slow the next day. Its so worth it to do this if you have high mileage

Yeah nycgps I agree its not the best idea to use the OEM shocks with lowering springs they will not last too long, but i got the shocks with low mileage for very cheap and my current shocks are blown and have 175,000 kilometers on them. I wanted to take the cheapest route to lower my car and not sacrifice too much comfort, most likely when I kill this set of shocks I will then get some nice coilovers :)
