Fuel Pump Housing Retaining Ring

Recently replaced my fuel pump and didn't look exactly where my retaining ring was pointing to when I removed it. I don't want it to leak so does anyone know how far you turn it past the start mark on the tank? I know you line the 3 lines that are closest to each other on the ring to the start position on the tank and go one full revolution back to start. Mines really tight just being past the word start by about an inch. But if look closer on the tank it has the words min and max on it after start. I don't think mine will go that much further. Videos I've seen and post I could find only said to go a little past start but no one ever said anything about the min and max positions.

As long as the fuel pump assembly is tight and doesn't turn...the ring is likely tight. If the pump rotates it isn't tight enough to seal the o-ring

It is a good idea to lube the seal with a little silicone and the ring threads...makes it easier to get tightened up

I use vacuum grease on mine, slips right on and off

just did it several nights ago after several years from when the last pump went in, off/on as easy as pie ...

WHATEVER YOU DO make sure to clean that whole area well including the exposed pump top before opening anything. Otherwise crud will get into the tank as well into the pump cup ... a brush and solvent or cleaner with shop towels or rags will work well

Alright after only tightening it to a little past the start mark it did leak while having a half a tank of gas and it continued to leak until I got it past the minimum mark. The pump assembly could not be budged by hand either. So it took one complete rotation plus a quarter rotation to at least the minimum mark to stop mine from leaking. I haven't filled it up completely yet but driving 30+ mins with a little over half a tank, It did not leak.
