Fuel Induction Service at Dealership
 

Hey all,

I have been trying my best to take very good care of my 8. I have done most of the maintenance myself. Just the normal things.

I have been learning quite a bit about the internals of the RX-8 and cars in general over the past 3 years or so. In my ignorance last year, I decided to get the manual recommended fuel induction service at the local dealership. I really wish I would've taken the time to research it, but I was nearing 60k miles and was near a dealer for a short period of time visiting family, so I decided to impulse buy the service.

Learning more about my 8, I feel like this was a mistake. Could someone clarify what exactly the service is? I remember asking the serviceman at the dealership but I don't remember what they told me.

I also attached a pic of my receipt of what was done. I also got an oil change at the same time.

They run some kind of snake oil through the injectors and/or the intake. Does no harm, other than to your wallet.

So are you saying that this service is not necessary for a RX-8 at 60k? What about at all during it's lifespan? Thanks for the reply.

I don't know what the service entails but removing the injectors for cleaning/flowing is not a $47 task at $100/h shop rate. I can't imagine they do much more than dropping a magic liquid in the gas tank.

If it's the kind that runs through the injectors, it will clean them. IMHO, if you use name brand gas they won't get dirty in the first place. This kind of service is not listed in the factory maintenance schedule.

I had something like this done to mine at a bit over 30K. It was part of a dealer 30K package. The package price was about what the stuff I wanted done (gearbox & rear end oil, brake flush, wheel balance, other odds & ends) would have added up to a la carte. Near as I can tell no harm was done.

Its pretty much like seafoaming your engine, except they use a special atomizer to inject the cleaner into the intake. I also believe they put something in the gas tank too. Its definitely something I would do each year myself (clean out the carbon), but if your not comfortable have the dealer do it. If they flood the engine then they will have to fix it.

As for the service, they probably just put a bottle of injector cleaner that cost 2 bux and 1 minute of time and charged u 150 for it

the only way to truly clean injector is to send it off to a shop to clean them. for aroun 30 bux each it will almost always restore it to like new condition

having worked at a dealership there are a couple of different injector flushes that are done, there is one that's just a can dumped into the fuel. there is also one that gets hooked into the fuel system, and its run thru instead of fuel.

since the Rx8 has kind of a "sealed" fuel line, i'd bet they dumped a bottle of snake oil in the gas.

this service is NOT in the manual. potential upside and downsides are almost zero, which is why its so widely offered in America. actually repairing a car requires skilled mechanics, and those people are smart enough to want more than minimum wage, which is what the dealership owner wants to pay nowadays...

sorry for the rant, but those injector services are complete BS. if you really look at a car you can usually fix a real problem. for $150 you could do a cabin filter and alignment, which actually offers a benefit.

Well that just about absolutely pisses me off. I don't know where I read that fuel induction service was recommended. I went back through my manual, because that was where I thought I saw it, and it is not listed in there.

What probably happened was I saw it on some BS pamphlet the dealer sent me as a recommended service.

Anyway, I feel like a fool. I almost feel like calling that dealership and drilling them about this; but it is my fault, I should have been more knowledgeable. I guess you live and learn, sometimes the hard way.

Oh, and why 10w40? Isn't heavier weighted oil only for extremely hot climates? I feel like this question is going to spark some debate so if there is another thread I should look at about oil, please point me to it.

I've been using 10w40 since I got my car. Use to use 20w50 in all my Rx7's with zero issues.

basic version : this engine has the highest na output but certain Part hasnt been updated in ages, just harden from factory.

Try DYNO-TAB Plus Injector Cleaner you will feel the different...
You can try on your other car first...
