Fluids and oxygen exposure

I recently did my first change on transmission and differential fluids, along with another oil change. I also topped off my brake fluid reservoir with a little bit of ATE Super Blue. Now, I know that once brake fluid is exposed to oxygen, it has a limited life due to the exposure. My question, is how long? The bottle was only opened for a minute or so, this was about a month ago. When I do my brake fluid flush this week, do I have to throw out the rest of that container of Super Blue? I mean, there must be some tolerance since you're exposing your fluid everytime that you open the fluid reservoir to top off anyway, right?

Also, how are the transmission and differential affected by opening containers? Can I hang onto the half empty bottles for use later? Here's the partially opened fluids that I have:

- Amsoil full synthetic 75-90 transmission gear oil
- Amsoil Syncromesh transmission gear oil
- Amsoil 75-110 full synthetic differential gear oil
- Amsoil differential friction modifiers

Does dino crankcase oil have a limit on usability after being opened?

In a sealed container you are fine.....

If you open it and leave the cap off in a wet garage.....after a few months...you might have a problem ;)

I wouldn't worry about the gear oil either :)

^^yup

if its cap closed, store in dry/cool place, no sun light, it will still be good for couple of months.

Just think of it, we have brake fluid in the master cylinder and its not really a sealed container, if it goes bad that easily, we would all be dead by now :)

same thing for engine oil.

store them in baggies for as long as their self life grants you

If you live in the desert and keep the container sealed, it last forever.
So do potato chips, bread and pretzels.

maybe i need to move to the desert and live in a zip loc bag---i could live forever!!!!:)

"Live" may be a bit optimistic.
"Preserved" is closer to the truth.

Heck --that is what I am now? Least I feel that way some mornings.
Kids have threaten to take a video of me trying to get out of bed and put it up on You Tube.
Damn smart kids. Beware of teenagers in large groups.
