Flooding under warranty?
 

my 4 year warranty is up in 3 weeks.(2005 rx8)

freezing weather this morning(texas) and my car started for 2 seconds and then stopped.
tried to start the car when the weather went up to 50 degrees but no dice.

the tow truck tried to jump my car and he says it doesn't seem like a battery issue.

the dealer had it towed and it seems im not paying for that.

But, they said i have to pay for the diagnostic test myself (114$) and that flooding isn't covered under warranty.

if the diagnostic tests show a engine problem, then i don't have to pay for diagnostic tests.

I told them to go ahead and run diagnostics on it since my warranty is almost up.

Anyone have any comments on this? I dont like that i might have to pay that diagnostic fee and then get it fixed myself if they blame me for the problem.

Yep, flooding is your problem. Never shut it off when cold (unless you have BHR coils) or if you have to rev it to 3k as you turn off the car.

since it is flooding. is it ok for them to run diagnostics on my car. maybe they will cover this under warranty?
or will they make me pay the diag. fee and try to make me pay to deflood it.

Did you try and deflood it yourself? Do you have the DVD that came with your car?

i sent it to the dealership for diagnostics. i kinda tried deflooding but probably didnt do it correctly. i thought this would be under warranty.

Go to the dealer and try it, or just pay them to do it. Flooding is a part of rotary ownership.

Well at least on the earlier 8s. I would say "potential flooding" is part of ownership and the chance increases if you don't take care of the car and don't make efforts to learn about it.

I've never flooded, cross fingers.

It does appear that with an upgraded battery and starter, the risk of flooding is reduced.

And basically not turning off till it reaches near operating temperature.

I had my car three or four years before I flooded it and then one stupid morning I started her up to move her and then shut her off without thinking and when I tried to restart her, BAM!! She was flooded. This was on new coils and plugs.

The second time it flooded was right before the second engine went kablooey and I did let her idle for a bit but apparently it was not enough. Both times getting her started was a bitch but being patient and following the DVD got her running again.

flooding is covered under a factory warranty extension 4206F campaign i think thats the campaign number (perform deflood and replace leading and trailing spark plugs) coverage is for the extended period of engine warranty..make sure not to pay for the deflood procedure :D:

the tech said that i would need to replace my battery(104$ total) before they could do any more work. i still am under bumper to bumper warranty for another 3 weeks. then they could deflood or do anything else that was needed.

If your car has a manual transmission, next time either try to push start it by popping the clutch or find a way to pull start it with another car. It will save you a trip to the dealership and only takes a few minutes. If pulling it doesn't start it, something serious is wrong.

ITs dead cold out but my engine still not flooded .....

Your car would not dare flood on you. :eek:

Soultran - browse through the various "Engine cranks, no start" TSBs. Some are more generous than others about what's under warranty.

i knew it was covered under warranty... my car has flooded b4 and was actually covered in full the tow and the procedure....but now i called and they say that its not gonna be covered any more and is gonna be $115 for them to cover the procedure any ideas i also have the Mazda Total Care warranty and they still told me the same thing??? and on top of that i think im gonna have to pay for the tow!!!!
