FL22 Coolant
 

I know this coolant is a mixture of 55/45 (antifreeze/water) and its factory fill for all Mazda cars after 2006 (? I think)

Anybody tried using this + running hard on the car ? how is the temp like ?

These coolants aint cheap, 12 bux a gal.

haven't tried using it yet. I usally just stick with a 70/30 mix of the normal stuff.

yeah FL22 came factory on my '06 RX-8.

The highest I have seen temp wise has been 212F and that was consistently (more than an hour- actually closer to 4 hours) at speeds between 70 and 130 (MPH) and 98F ambient outside air temp and with the A/C on. This was returning from sevenstock this year and driving through the middle of the California farm belt.

But we were really moving and the 212F was just a spike- it didn't stay there for more than 15 minutes...most of the time it was around 180-190F like it is supposed to be.

BTW the stock temp gauge never moved from it's normal spot... I don't think it can differentiate much between 20F or 30F differences.

thats because stock gauge wont move until 232-234f I think :( Which is pretty darn hot :(

Hmm, That kind of temp sounds ok. about the same with the normal stuff.

yeah, it won't move till you're over 230 and by then, you're already overheating.

Yeah, your big advantage is that it doesn't break down nearly as fast as the green stuff in the Yellow container.

You know if you get two years out of some prestone or that other brand without it loosing all its anti corrosion ability you are doing good.

With the pre-mixed FL22 (or your own mix of 55/45 (antifreeze/ de-ionized and de-mineralized water)) you can get 4 years+ out of it.

that's why I flush out all my fluids once a year. :)

Yeah, if I was on the water/ocean still I would too. The salt and moist air gets into everything. But being 20 miles inland now, I don't have that as much of an issue.

Otherwise every 2 years or 24K miles (which ever comes first) is fine... although I am going to keep checking the FL 22 and see when it starts to break down. So far I have been very impressed and I am considering using it in the FC.

My late year 05 build date came with FL22 in it.

Silly question, but where do you buy it?

I'll go ahead and assume water wetter is safe to mix with it.

Mazda dealer. It's a Mazda product, not a generic type. What's in the jug might be generic, but FL22 is their name. Took me a while to figure that out.

When I bought a jug, I went to the parts counter and asked for FL22. That did not register with the parts guy. When I said coolant, he said "Oh - you want the green coolant."

Is this true? Fl22 is just Mazda proprietary name what kind of coolant should I use if that's what I have in there, I just bought an 09 with 10k miles on Mazda remanufactured motor installed by Mazda

Nearly every new car is starting to have FL 22 type in it; Fords , Lexus, etc.

It seems like the best long lasting of any type, and any car could benefit changing to it.

I can't find info on BMW's special coolant, but I bet it's similar.

Besides superior corrosion protection for aluminum, it's a 10 year life product.

Someone said even Zerex Asian formula. I'd buy concentrate and mix 55/45 with distilled water.
