First oil change

I planned on ordering Royal Purple 5W-30 motor oil this week. I worked myself into an oil change frenzy and could not wait though.
I bought Mobil1 5W-30 and True grip type B oil wrench at Wal Mart.
The wrench worked without a problem.
I used my Mityvac 7200 fluid evacuator and siphoned 4 quarts of oil out of oil pan, [filled gallon milk jug with old oil]. I now have a nice white K&N oil filter,[HP-1008]. White filter really visible.
I almost bought Wal Mart brand synthetic motor oil. Does anyone use or know about this oil?
I have 2800 miles on my car and will change again 5 to 7,000 miles.
The oil wrench was only $2.96, good, I will not use it again since K&N filter has a nut on end of their filter.

did you say type B oil wrench? i saw someone in the forum mentioned type f. I wonder which one works....

Type B wrench from Stride Tool. My guess is the sizing is by manufacturer and not to any standard. I recall the F size also. My wrench is True Grip and it was $2.96.
sunlight silver GT also

I am still really wondering which route to go with oil. I just need to make up my mind. I am going to run dino for sure until 3000 miles.

I can get Royal Purple for $5.65 a quart no tax. But for now I am running Castrol GTX.

Royal Purple

I believe Royal Purple is $5.25 a quart at www.rpmoil.com.
About $63 a case with free shipping and no sales tax.

Why would you not just drain the oil from the drain pan? I'd want the gravity drain to get any sludge sitting on the bottom of the pan that a hose won't suck up...

Gordon

I would not want sludge of course. Hopefully I left the sludge in my younger beaters days. I will drain from plug in a couple of years just see though. I will try to go 5 to 7,000 miles without changeing oil. I plan on using Royal Purple 5W-30 or Mobil 1 from now on. The oil we are using now is thick as water not like 20W- 50 oil in my past so if bad stuff is suspended in oil it is going up the hose. I did wonder about this before I bought evacuator two years ago though.
