Film and Foggy Headlamps

I wanted to know if any has had problems with your headlamps having a rainboish film on your headlamps. I already replaced them once through my warrenty. I called my mazda dealership and the assistant manager or the service dept. said that mazda wasn't going to replace them again because all the new Rx-8s on the lot has the same fogg in the headlamps. I called mazda and they opened a trouble ticket but I have to wait until the manager of the service dept returns from vacation to set up another meeting. The funny thing about it is that I talked to the manager originally and he was going to order the lamps and give me a call when they came in but then the assitant mngr talked him out of ordering me new head lamps. Please let me know if this has happened to you once? twice?? and what should I do about this.

I have lived with it since Oct '03

Mine have it also. I can only see it at night or under specific light conditions. I haven't remembered to say anything but will see what my dealer says next week.

Regular waxing seems to help (Mieguirs or however you spell it). But yes, it has been there since I can remember.

Yes this will help the outside of the lens but does nothing for the film on the interior
surface...
The only way to resolve this (that I'm aware of) is to convice the stealership to replace
the whole unit.
Good luck with that...!

I took my RX-8 into the dealer for that same problem and they replaced both headlights.

Raptor2k 04-24-2006 10:23 PM

For those who have had their headlights replaced....how long has the dealer taken to do so?

rockin 04-25-2006 09:01 AM

Do you mean for the order to come in? If so about a week.

zenmoused 04-25-2006 09:42 AM

Does this film have any adverse effects on the headlights' operation? Just curious cause I'm pretty sure my dealership wouldn't replace my headlights because I don't like the way they glisten in the sunlight.

RotrDoc 04-25-2006 10:39 AM

It's a warranty item. If the assembly is defective, they ought to replace it. Doesn't cost the dealer anything except filing the warranty claim with Mazda.

rockin 04-25-2006 11:04 AM

I it does effect the lights. After the change they were much brighter. They did not changer the bulbs themselfs just the assemble.

No, just the time it takes to be replaced. I need mine replaced, they're getting filmy. They have headlights in stock, but I don't want to sit there for an hour.

rockin 04-25-2006 04:14 PM

About 2 - 3 hours. They need to take the front off the car and if the service man has not done that before(in my case) it can take a while.

I went to the dealership and had it out with the assistant service manager.and the manager. He spoke to mazda about my service ticket and they found that there is a new set of headlamps, (because of a different product code) that should fix the problem. I'll let you all know how they look after they replace them this week.

Zero_Rotary 07-04-2007 08:48 AM

time to revive this old thread hehe

for those who have had the headlight replace due to foggy on the inside of the headlamp...did it happened again with the replaced ones?

Mine is starting to get foggy on the inside and thinking of replacing them...but just wondering if the new ones will last too?

Also has anyone tried to open the assembly and re-seal it?

ezrider55 07-09-2007 02:49 PM

There was a TSB. The TSB is no longer posted so Mazda will no longer do a replacement.

Docj78 04-25-2008 09:31 AM

Another revival. So what is the final word with this? I have gathered that:
1. Many people have this issue
2. There was a TSB, and there IS an upgraded replacement.
3. Mazda has decided that this is NOT a warranty issue?? WTF?:icon_no2:

lilring 04-25-2008 05:13 PM

Warranty will not replace this. ive tried. just take a buffer to it and it will come out.. trust me. it will

Zero_Rotary 05-20-2008 07:32 AM

Mine still gets foggy eversince..

so does the upgraded replacement headlamp foggy proof now?

Maybe those newer rx8 models can advise whether they have the fogy issue??
