few quick questions

Ok so I just recently got this thing working. Few questions.

1. Noticed it has a AP midpipe, but no CEL. Does this mean the PO used this thing called a Cobb on it?

2. Wouldn't the car lose it's memory of the Cobb if the battery was unplugged for a long duration??

3. My midpipe was smoking the other day while the car wasn't running right. Also made the center console very hot and impossible to touch. Is this thing toast? Either way I have one on the way. (didn't know it had a midpipe already till when I was changing the ignition components)

4. The exhaust is pretty quiet. It's got the RB exhaust w/ dual resonated midpipe. Is this normal that it's this quiet?

the mid pipe will be loud and not having a cel is uncommon but could show up anytime unless its masked. disconnecting the battery wont knock out a cobb map if you have one

logalinipoo 07-21-2015 07:07 AM

a midpipe does not really go bad unless there is a hole in it. I can't think of a reason the a mid pipe would get hot enough to make the center console really hot. I mean they gt hot but not extremly hot.

If you are catless the cel would be cleared by a really dead battery or disconnecting it. It might take a while for the CEL to pop back up. I would doubt the PO left a cobb tune on it. he would ahve to uninstall the tune to resell the cobb.

I didn't really get a good look at it. PO might have had a cat installed on it. I know the thing was smoking and nasty.

Help us help you, take some pictures, you can reach under the car.

Also your description is confusing, first you say it's an AP midpipe, then you say you didn't know it had a midpipe, then you say its a dual-resonated RB midpipe. It's got to be one of those..

I'm wondering if you're not just seeing the stock cat without its heatshield.

logalinipoo 07-21-2015 08:00 AM

good guess Loki. I'm not doubting it was red and hot. I'm just thinking it has a cat to cause that. That's normally the number one sign you have a ignition issue and a bad cat(which results from the ignition issue).

yapakanichi 07-21-2015 08:13 AM

Yea I'll get some pictures when I'm off work. Can't really get under vehicle right now.

yapakanichi 07-21-2015 08:19 AM

I never said it was a RB resonated mid-pipe BTW lol. It has a RB catback exhaust.

The confusion is from "It's got the RB exhaust w/ dual resonated midpipe." as RB makes a dual resonated midpipe, I don't know of any other vendor that does really...

You know what after doing more research, I think I've figured out that it's a replacement catalytic converter. Feel like an idiot....

But hey I could be wrong.

Or it's the stock.....with no heat shield. I feel like a tool....

Loki 07-21-2015 11:02 AM

Yeah that looks like the stocker.
Smoking and overheating in that area is definitely not a good sign but would make sense if you say you had ignition issues. Might be a good idea to unbolt it and examine it for plugging or damage.

I got a midpipe on the way. I'm going to keep it till I can pass inspection, then the midpipe goes on...OH YEA

Agreed, riding with bad ignition and a burnt out cat is BAD for the engine. Plus, you won't pass your emissions test with either of those most likely.

My thought, just get a high flow cat (BHR) or just get a replacement stock.

The "heat" could be due to the cat burning up (hence the smoke) and why the center console is "unbearable" to touch. Also invest in new ignition system (BHR makes a good one for not too much more than OEM).

yapakanichi 07-28-2015 03:44 PM

Ignition has been replaced, running like a new car now.

Midpipe has been ordered as well.

Heat from the cat is gone as well since the ignition has been replaced.
