Fan Running?

I own a 2006 Rx-8 it has just over 3300 miles on it.

After coming home work I had a kind of strange problem. I parked the car, turned it off and got out of it. At first I thought I heard the house air conditioner running. But as I came around to the front of the car I noticed that the sound was coming from my Rx-8. It didn't take me long to realize that the sound was the radiator fan... It was still running.

Now, it stopped when got back in and toggled the key to the test position and back to off. It hasn't happened since, but I told my Mazda mechanic, he said that he'd heard of this occuring in the Mazda 6 but he'd never heard of it happing in a Rx-8. I wanted to know if I was really alone in this problem, and should I be worried.

It is normal, do not toggle the key this cancels the cooling your car needs! When the engine is shut off on a hot day it will run for a few mins depending on how hot it is. What is your location (you left it out)and how hot was it there today?

+1..........look in the manual, it can run as long as ten minutes after you shut it off!
Does anybody ever read the manual anymore? Yeah, there's a lot of crap in there, but there is also some useful info.

Manassas, Va. The temp. was in the 80s, but it had been idling in traffic so I knew that it got hot.

mmmm.. Thanks, that sounds like something the dealer should know about. Kind of important, like checking the oil.... Maybe I should worry.

Yeah.........just worry about that dealer, not your car. All is okay. I'm in Florida and my fan will run sometimes for a few minutes. Go back out and check it after like twenty minutes, if still running..........then you can worry. :)

Lots of cars do this, by the way. The RX-8 just happens to have a very powerful (or maybe just a very NOISY) fan. :) Sounds like it's getting ready to launch into orbit.
